AFTER a maze of qualifiers in the group stage, 16 teams went into the National Football Association Brunei Darussalam (NFABD) Red Bull Championship 2012 draw yesterday with heavyweights MS PDB and last years Red Bull Futsal Championship finalist Red Butterfly facing a difficult time missing out being seeded.

Held at the main office of the NFABD in Berakas, the draw revealed the first game of the second round between the leader of the Group F, AH United and the runner-up of Group A, Arbisyam FC on August 26 at the Multipurpose Hall of the Hassanal Bolkiah Sports Complex in Berakas.

Both AH United and Arbisyam FC were unbeaten coming into the second round, with each team recorded three wins and one draw in the qualifying stages.

With the absence of the last year's champions QAF FC, MS ABDB, Shah United, Kota Junior and this year's surprise package LLRC FT will take the challenge to win the tournament this time around.

Debutant LRRC FT are enjoying their time in the tournament after recording four wins out of four games and will play against Pega Star of Group C in the second round.

"We will try our best to win the tournament. This is our first time competing in the national futsal tournament. I am happy with their performance so far.

"We do not know much about Pega Star as this is only our first time in the tournament, but we will do our best," said Ahmad Sazarin, the manager of the LLRC FT.

Meanwhile, FC Phosphor manager Tengku Syed Herdiman Tengku Syed Abdul Rahman believes that his team be able to create history in the tournament as they prepare to take on Syah Kampong on September 18 at the Multipurpose Hall of the Hassanal Bolkiah Sports Complex in Berakas.

"I am satisfied with the draw lots. Syah Kampong is a good team and I never underestimate them. We have met before in the tournament and they have a lot of talented players. But we have prepared very well for this tournament," said Tengku Syed Herdiman.

"If we manage to beat Syah Kampong in the second round, we will go up against MS ABDB or Rizfiz FT. My boys have waited a long time for this chance to beat the best futsal team in the country. I believe that they will be able to win the tournament and create history for the club," he added.

The other matches will see Kelab Youth Futsal 2015 pits against Shah United; Indera SC will entertain Street United; PHJ FT will play Fuzee United; Kota Junior go up against Stone Villa, and MS ABDB will face Rizfiz in the second round of the tournament.

Present at the NFABD Red Bull Championship draw were the tournament director Hj Mohd Taha Hj Mohd Tahir, committee members of the National Football Association of Brunei Darussalam (NFABD) and the managers of the participating futsal clubs.

FA Cup in LLRC's reach FOOTBALL

THERE is no shortage of thrills in the local football scene with 23 teams still in the mix for the Brunei FA Cup.

Kuala Belait based football team Liang Lumut Recreation Club Football Team (LLRC FT) know that the road ahead won't be an easy one, having competed in the Brunei Premier Cup just a few years back.

Since its establishment in early 2007, LLRC FT have established themselves as one of the top new football teams in the country.

There have been signs over the last few years that the club are making inroads in their quest to be one of the football powers in the Sultanate.

The club started out as a non-league team in 2006 with many of their players from the Kuala Belait Municipal Board.

In 2008, LLRC FT began their football campaign in the national league in impressive fashion, finishing second behind AM Gunners FC in the Brunei Premier League II.

They recorded four wins, one loss and two draws in the league.

They carried their momentum into the post-season and battled their way through to the semi-final of Brunei Premier Cup where they lost to the Royal Brunei Armed Forces' Sports Council (MS ABDB).

The following year saw LLRC FT earn their right to fight in the top-flight Brunei Premier League I after finishing at the top of second league.

Team striker Mohd Azri Jebri was awarded the league topscorer while Mohammad Safuan Juhar was nominated as a candidate for the best young player award.

LLRC FT coach Hj Affendi Hj Julaihi who was nominated for the best coach of the 2009/2010 Brunei Premier League however made his mission clear, to keep the club in the country's most competitive league, the Brunei Super League.

LLRC FT made their return to the national stage last year after the lifting of FIFA's suspension by competing in National Football Association Brunei Darussalam's (NFABD) DST National Football League where they finished at the top of the group A.

The team had received their affiliation to the NFABD in 2011.

Undefeated throughout the season, the team were promoted to the Brunei Super League and will pit their skills against local heavyweights such as QAF FC, MS ABDB and Majra FC.

Despite their impressive resume, LLRC FT cannot rest on their laurels if they hope to lift the inaugural Brunei FA Cup.

A good start is essential this time round and they cannot afford to lose any players due to injuries.

Winger Safuan Juhar will need to replicate his form in the DST National Football League if they are to have a chance of lifting the trophy and play-maker Muhd Amirul Jafri will also be key in leading his side to glory in the tournament.

SIXTEEN teams have already booked their berth in the National Football Association of Brunei Darussalam (NFABD) Red Bull Futsal Championship 2012.

According to Hj Hamidon Hj Mohd Zain of the NFABD, the tournament will only resume after the month of Ramadhan and the Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebration, and the draw for the second round of the tournament will be held soon, but the date has yet to be confirmed.

Organised by the NFABD for the first time, a total of 40 teams separated into eight groups were vying for top honours in the tournament, however there are only 16 teams that made it to the second round of the tournament.

Indera SC, Arbisyam FC, Kelab Youth Futsal 2015, Shah United, MS ABDB, Pega Star, Kota Juniors, Rizfiz FT, PHJ FT, Syah Kampong, AH United, Fuzee FT, LLRC Utd, Stone Villa FT, Street United and FC Phosphor are the teams that made it to the second round.

Indera SC and Arbisyam FT qualified as the top two teams from group A. Kelab Youth Futsal 2015, MS ABDB, Kota Juniors, PHJ FT, Ah United, LLRC FT and FC Phosphor all topped the group B, C, D, E, F, G and H respectively.

"It is going to be an interesting second round of the tournament," said FC Phosphor manager Tengku Syed Herdiman Tengku Syed Abdul Rahman.

"In our club history, MS ABDB and Kota Junior were always the most difficult teams to play against. Shah United is one of the top club ranking futsal in the country and they have the experience winning the tournament in the country and overseas. We got to face any of these teams eventually," he added.

LLRC FT's manager Ahmad Sazarin Hj Ahmad Sabli also agreed that Kota Juniors and Shah United are the teams to beat in the competition this year.

"Kota Juniors and Shah United are the team to beat in the tournament. They have been around in futsal for years, they are very established futsal team and they got the experience competing in a lot of tournaments," he said.

"For the time being we are having a break. We will resume training after the Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebration. It is a tough competition, and this team were only formed this year. However will try our best to win the tournament," he added.

Delson fires Lun Bawang into second round

DELSON Jumat's rapid brace put Lun Bawang on their way to a 4-0 win over Persatuan Batang Mitus and a place in the second round of the Brunei FA Cup yesterday.

With Persatuan Batang Mitus still reeling after Eliazar Sabtu gave Lun Bawang a 38th minute lead, Delson doubled the team's cushion after a one-on-one with goalkeeper Farizan Salleh just seconds later.

The 20-year-old would put the Temburong-based side 3-0 up in the 42nd minute after stealing the ball on defence and once again cooly slotting home, making it three goals in the space of five minutes.

"One goal wasn't enough we needed more to seal the result," stressed Delson after the game at the Hassanal Bolkiah National Stadium in Berakas.

"I'm always confident I can score heading into every game, and as a striker, that is my aim," added Delson, who was forced out in the second-half due to a high boot to his face by a Persatuan Batang Mitus defender that was left unpunished.

Lun Bawang's through balls and one-two passing meant they easily carved open space be it down the middle or through the flanks.

Their persistent off-the-ball pressure helped them regain possession after losing it at times, Persatuan Batang Mitus were happy to just boot the ball away and hope for the best.

Idris Lupat created the first goal when his shot was parried away by Farizan after a run down the left, but only to the onrushing Eliazar - who confidently pounded the ball in from close range.

Persatuan Batang Mitus' back-line was caught napping seconds later when a ball over the top found Delson, who used his pace to beat his markers and stroke the ball into the net despite cries of offside.

Delson doubled his goal-tally after dispossessing left-back Res Ardi Angip and scoring with a low-strike past Farizan's right, with Idris making it 4-0 in the 78th minute after a textbook free-kick over the wall and into the top-left corner.

Liang Lumut Recreation Club Football Team (LLRC FT) also progressed into the second round after beating BIBD Sports and Recreational Club 4-1 yesterday in the last of first round action.

The second round is expected to start after Hari Raya.-Jason Thomas
