Tuesday, January 28, 2014

THE Royal Brunei Police Force Sports Council (MS PDB) is aiming for a top-three finish in the DST Super League this season.

The policemen only managed to place fifth out of 13 teams in last year’s edition of the elite national league.

They recorded four wins, one draw and four losses in the tournament and managed to score 23 goals – while letting in 18 – throughout the campaign.

“We are aiming to finish in the top three this season. Last year was a bit disappointing as we only managed to finish fifth,” said manager Staff Sgt Sahrin Hj Md Jaya in an interview with The Brunei Times last night.

“We have added five to six new players this season and all of them are aged 21 to 24 years old. They are still young but they are very talented. I hope that we will be able to achieve our target this year,” he said.

MS PDB were supposed to go up against Wijaya FC at the Berakas Sports Complex on Sunday, but the game was postponed due to unsatisfactory pitch conditions following the downpour.

They are now scheduled to face QAF FC on Sunday at the same venue.

Captain Rosmini Hj Abdul Kahar – alongside senior players such as Mohd Fazizzul Hussin and Md Syarafuddin Hamdi Hj Talip – will once again lead the policemen this year.

Asked who he felt would be challenging for the top honours this season, Sharin replied: “I think teams that finished in the top five (Indera Sports Club, Royal Brunei Armed Forces Sports Council (MS ABDB), Majra United QAF FC and MS PDB) will be the favourites to win it this year,”

MS PDB ended their campaign last season with a 3-1 loss to Indera SC who pipped MS ABDB for the crown on the final day of the season.

The policemen kicked off last season on the wrong foot, going down 2-1 to MS ABDB in December, 2012.
They were held to a 4-4 draw by Majra the following week, before kicking off 2013 with a 4-1 victory over QAF, the game which the manager described as their best of the season.

They followed that up with a 5-0 thrashing of Najip FC and a 2-1 win over Wijaya FC.

They defeated Kilanas FC 3-2, but fell to Liang Lumut Recreational Club Football Team (LLRC FT) with a similar scoreline in their next game.

They dropped another three points after losing 2-1 to Jerudong FC before going down to Indera in their final game of the season.

This season’s DST Super League features 10 teams – MS ABDB, Indera, MS PDB, QAF, Majra, Kilanas, Jerudong, Wijaya, Najip and LLRC.

The league kicked off on Monday with QAF and Jerudong sharing the spoils with a 2-2 draw at the Balapan Track and Field.

Najip FC buat rombakan besar

Liga Perdana buka tirai

 http://mediapermata.brunei-online.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/01/PAGE23_270108355062.jpg

THE Brunei Shell Recreation Club Football Team (BSRC FT) defeated Tunas FC 3-1 in the DST Premier League opener at the Tutong Sports Complex yesterday.

Mohammad Hazman Hamdan provided plenty of firepower for BSRC FT by scoring a brace.
Teammate Syazwi Mohammad also got his name onto the scoresheet in the victory.

Mohammad Hazman broke the deadlock in the 28th minute to give BSRC FT a 1-0 lead.

Syazwan Azizi Hj Taib would equalise for Tunas FC ten minutes later, but Syazwi would put BSRC FT in front again just before the end of the first half to give BSRC FT a 2-1 advantage.

Mohammad Hazman would score his second goal in the 78th minute as BSRC walked away with a maximum three points.

BSRC FT and Tunas FC were the only teams in action yesterday after the match between Lun Bawang and IKLS at the Temburong Sports Complex was postponed to a later date.

Setia Perdana were set to take Perkasa at the Berakas Sports Complex while Kota Rangers and Rimba Star were set to see action at the Balapan Track and Field on Friday but both matches were postponed due to unsatisfactory pitch conditions at competition venues after the downpour.

The DST Super League kicked off on Monday with QAF FC and Jerudong FC sharing the spoils with a 2-2 draw at the Balapan Track and Field.

Mohd Jurelmi Hj Zaini scored the opening goal of the new season to give Jerudong the lead in the 26th minute.

Sam Frank notched things up after heading home the equaliser for QAF in the 42nd minute.
Jerudong got back in front through Md Endy Soehardy Awg Sapar in the 55th minute before Frank tied things up again with a spectacular shot from outside the box in the 73rd minute.

The Royal Brunei Armed Forces Sports Council (MS ABDB) won the first silverware of the season on Sunday after edging Indera SC 2-1 in the Sumbangsih Cup at the Balapan Track and Field.

A goal each by Mohd Mazazizi Mazlan and Mohd Khairuddin Abdul Kadir in the opening 25 minutes was enough for the armymen to lift the trophy.

Indera SC scored a consolation through Mohd Shahrin Momin from the penalty spot in the 84th minute.

LIGA SUPER BUKA TIRAI

.

QAF FC were held to a 2-2 draw by Jerudong FC in the opener of the 2014 DST Super League at the Balapan Track and Field of the Hassanal Bolkiah National Spots Complex in Berakas last night.

QAF manager Rahim Hj Daud told The Brunei Times that he was relieved to walk away from the match with a point but expressed disappointment with how the performance of the team.

“I am not happy with the boys tonight. Even though we controlled the game, we missed a lot of chances,” he said.

“I don’t know what happened tonight, maybe the field is too slippery after the rain or maybe the players did not give their all in the game but I am very thankful that we did not lose the game,” he added.

QAF was the first to create a real chance when Petrus Jumat's cross found Hardi Bujang on the left inside the penalty box but his shot was parried by Jerudong goalkeeper Mohd Khairul Anuar Hj Abd Ghani.

Jerudong had a chance to take the lead but their calls for a penalty — after striker Mohd Julremi Hj Zaini was brought down by captain Riwandi Abd Wahit — fell on deaf ears.

A few minutes later Jerudong caught QAF napping as they allowed Mohd Julremi to run freely into the penalty box following a clearance from Jerudong's own half.

Mohd Julremi calmly slotted the ball from close range to give Jerudong a 1-0 lead in the 26th minute.
The QAF midfield responded and took control of the game with Mohd Hardyman Abdul Lamit holding a defensive role, while, twin brothers Mardi Mirza Abdullah Bujang and Hardi pressed higher up the pitch.

Mardi Mirza put on an impressive performance, especially in the first-half with his accurate passes, but were most impressive on both flanks.

Sam Frank — on the right — and Petrus Jumat caused a lot of trouble for Jerudong with their pace and crosses, with the former equalising in the 42nd minute with a stunning header from the edge of the box following a corner kick from the right.

Mohd Asnawi Syazwi Abd Aziz was particularly impressive for Jerudong, the winger found himself with a good scoring opportunity in the box, but he could only muster a weak shot with his left foot.

QAF also dominated the second-half, but again it was Jerudong who found the net, Mohd Endy Soehardy Awg Sapar capitalising on a poor clearance by QAF defender inside the penalty box.

QAF continued to pile the pressure on Jerudong as they searched for an equaliser.

They finally got their reward in the 73rd minute when Frank beat Jerudong goalkeeper from outside the penalty box with a spectacular shot following an impressive pin-point cross by Mohd Hardyman from the right.

Mohd Asnawi missed the chance to put Jerudong ahead a few minutes later when he headed wide a Mohd Radzi Tamat cross from the right.

Mardi Mirza should have scored in the 80th minute when he was set through inside the penalty box, but he blasted the ball wide.

Petrus meanwhile got his volley blocked by a QAF defender a few minutes later.

Jerudong were reduced to 10 men when Mohd Julremi was given the marching order for dangerous tackle on Riwandi in the 86th minute.

MS ABDB juara Piala Sumbangsih

Posted date: January 21, 2014

Oleh Hasrulraizan

BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN, 20 Jan – Piala Sumbangsih DST 2014 menjadi milik juara Piala FA DST 2013, Majlis Sukan Angkatan Bersenjata Diraja Brunei (ABDB) setelah berjaya menundukkan Juara Liga Super DST-NFABD 2013, Indera SC dengan jaringan 2-1 malam tadi.

A GOAL each from Mohd Mazazizi Mazlan and Mohd Khairuddin Abdul Kadir was enough to help the Royal Brunei Armed Forces Sports Council (MS ABDB) edge Indera Sports Club (SC) 2-1 in the Sumbangsih Cup last night.

The victory meant a lot to the MS ABDB players as they were looking forward to the match after the pain of losing last year’s DST Super League title to Indera on the final day of the season in March.

Both teams finished the league tied on points, but Indera's superior goal difference was enough to put them ahead of MS ABDB – who won the DST FA Cup last year.

“This is my first time in charge of the team and what a very good start it has been for us,” said MS ABDB manager Pg Mufid Pg Hj Umar Ariffin in after the match at the Balapan Tarck and Field of the Hassanal Bolkiah National Spots Complex in Berakas.

“We were very solid from the start but Indera came back in the second-half. We defended very well and I think centre-back Mohd Aliuddin Besar was fantastic.

“It was a very well contested game as both teams created chances, but we managed to get early goals in the game and did very well to defend the lead,” he added.

The army opted for a five-man midfield, with Mohd Mazazizi - who represent the country at last month’s Southeast Asian (SEA) Games in Myanmar - being deployed wide on the left as striker Mohd Bahrin Hamidon played the solo role up top.

They opened the scoring with just five minutes on the clock as Mohd Mazazizi converted a penalty after one of MS ABDB’s player was brought down in a scramble inside the penalty box.

The army men came close to adding a second with two good chances in the space of a minute as first Mohd Mazazizi and then Affendy Hj Akup were denied by Indera SC goalkeeper Ak Omar Nur Aqamaddin Pg Salehuddin – who also represented the country at last month’s SEA Games.

Indera offered little threat in the MS ABDB half afterwards, with Hamizan Aziz Sulaiman’s curling shot the only effort to speak of as the army men dominated the game.

Indera found themselves 2-0 down in the 25th minute when Mohd Mazazizi found Mohd Khairuddin down the left before blasting the ball home.

Mohd Zulkhairy Razali was brought in to replace Hamizan Aziz at the start of the first-half, with midfielder Mohd Nurikhwan Othman being deployed as a second striker.

Indera improved in the second-half and MS ABDB’s goalkeeper was called upon to tip Indera captain Mohd Shahrin Momin’s shot over the bar, but their resurgence was short-lived.

Ak Mohd Safri Pg Hj Othman almost made it 3-0 for MS ABDB in the 58th minute when he was set through inside the penalty box, but the midfielder fired his shot straight into Ak Omar’s arms.

MS ABDB continued their dominance in the second half as they pressed for more goals, and if it was not because of brilliant goalkeeping by Indera's Ak Omar, they would have won by a bigger margin.
Indera, however, got their consolation goal in the 84th minute when Mohd Sharin converted a penalty after Abdul Azizi Ali Rahman brought down Mohd Aqmal Hakeem Abd Hamid inside the penalty area.

Present as the guest of honour to award the trophies and prizes to the winners was a member of DST’s Board of Directors, Abdul Latif Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Setia Dato Paduka Hj Md Yusuf.
