BAHARIN Hamidon netted the only goal of the game to land MS ABDB a Brunei DST FA Cup quadruple in the 1-0 win over Najip I-Team in the final at the Berakas Sports Complex last night.
Winners in 2013, 2014 and 2015, the army personnel took an early lead in the 4th minute and survived a Najip onslaught midway in the second half.
The reigning FA Cup holders had a chance to kill the game right at the death when Mohd Mazazizi Mazlan squared off fellow substitute Azizi Ali Rahman- both first-team regulars- but the latter contrived to shoot wide.
The army personnel also narrowly missed a tap-in after a good ball was played down the middle deep into first half stoppage time.
Baharin, the semi-final hero, was occasionally frustrated during the second half and his frustrations became apparent after being cautioned in the 69th minute with Najip’s chances falling mainly through a repetition of set pieces.

The Brunei DST FA Cup win was the perfect send-off for their outgoing team manager Major (A) Razanol Hardi Abd Razak who will not be around for the 2017 season.
The team manager hailed his charges for their teamwork and mental focus adding that they have worked hard and deserved the championship including the other titles during his reign as team manager.
“The boys played really hard and as you can see it is a tough game. The other teams have adapted to their formation and set play,” Major (A) Razanol told the Weekend Bulletin in a post-match interview.
“A win is a win but it was not an easy win. We aim to maintain our championship next year,” added the team manager.
Major (A) Razanol took charge of first team affairs in 2015 continuing the work left behind by Major (A) Pengiran Mohd Farisan Pengiran Haji Metassan and guided MS ABDB to the Brunei DST Super League and Brunei DST FA Cup titles.
The army personnel completed the season with a treble having already lifted the Sumbangsih Cup and the Brunei DST Super League titles.
When asked what was Major Razanol (A) most memorable final in his time as team manager, he replied this year’s Brunei DST FA Cup final was the one.
“They played very well. It was the best match I’ve seen all year. They kept up the mental focus and their teamwork has increased from the last game,” he said.
“They improved a lot. Hopefully they improve even better. Najip really gave us a tough match.”
Asked if there is still work needed to be done next year, Major (A) Razanol agreed as other teams have adapted to their game.
“The other teams in the league adapted to our set play we have to always evolve with the training as well as introducing new players,” concluded Major (A) Razanol.
Presenting the prizes was Laksamana Pertama Pengiran Dato Seri Pahlawan Norazmi bin Pengiran Muhammad, Acting Commanding Officer of the Royal Brunei Armed Forces.

MS ABDB wary of Najip I-Team in FA Cup final

    Fadhil Yunus
MS ABDB team manager Major (A) Razanol Hardi Abd Razak will be wary of the threat that Najip I-Team possess ahead of the 2016 Brunei DST FA Cup final at the Berakas Sports Complex tomorrow.
The team manager highlighted that Najip will not take them lightly and will devise their own strategy to try and overcome the cup holders.
“For the last few matches during the FA Cup, we noticed that the rest of the teams have adapted themselves so the challenge can be very tough,” said Major (A) Razanol during a press conference at the NFABD House yesterday.
MS ABDB – the most successful team in the competition – survived a major scare in the fourth round when they escaped from a shock defeat after Razimie Ramlli’s last-gasp equaliser before the striker netted an extra-time winner against Al Idrus Junior.
“I’m sure for our next match against Najip I-Team they will not make it easy for us. I’m sure they will have their own strategy to give us a good fight,” he added.
Meanwhile, Najip I-Team hoped for a good showing in their second final appearance against the same team whom they met in 2014.

“It will be a bonus for us if we end up winning the final,” continued the representative adding that he hoped that luck would favour them.
Najip I Team expressed their hopes of winning the FA Cup trophy while MS ABDB hoped to defend the title.
On another note, Haji Mohd Noor bin Haji Abd Hamid, who chaired the press conference, expressed hopes of a quality, exciting and highly disciplined final in aiding the development of football in the country.

Army man Baharin the hero as MS ABDB march to final

     Fadhil Yunus
MS ABDB midfielder Mohd Baharin Hamidon marked his return to the starting line-up in style after netting a 83rd minute winner in the 1-0 win against Indera SC to help book his team a place in the Brunei DST FA Cup final at the Tutong Sports Complex on Friday.
The army personnel set up a rematch of the 2014 final against Najip I Team, who survived a fiery tie against Tabuan Under-17 in an earlier kick-off at the Track and Field Sports Complex.
The Brunei international, who won his first caps last month at the AFC Solidarity Cup, missed the quarter-final win over Kota Ranger FC through suspension but made a fine return together with teammate for both club and country Razimie Ramlli.
MS ABDB will be playing a record 10th cup final in its current format since 2002 and will be looking to clinch a sixth consecutive cup trophy since the 2005/06 season.
The reigning Brunei DST Super League winners have not tasted defeat in the competition since DPMM FC last appeared in 2004.

MS ABDB will be making a record 10th final appearance in the Brunei DST FA Cup final next Friday.
The undefeated army personnel should enter the final as favourites after knocking their fiercest rival with Najip having work to do after being pushed all the way by the highly-spirited young Tabuan.
The Brunei DST FA Cup holders nearly did not make it through after staring elimination in the face against Al Idrus Junior when Razimie struck a last-gasp equaliser in the 95th minute to send the game to extra time before scoring the winner himself deep in the second period of extra time.
MS ABDB team manager Major (A) Razanol Hardi Abd Razak also has a fifth major honour in his sights since taking the reins in his current role last year having already lifted back-to-back Brunei DST Super League titles, Brunei DST FA Cup title and the DST Sumbangsih Cup.
The final will take place at the Berakas Sports Complex next Friday with Najip looking to overcome the odds against a side who have yet to concede a defeat this season.
MS ABDB are unbeaten in the last 13 games in all competitions with promoted sides Kota Ranger and Kasuka the only teams which took points off them in the Brunei DST Super League.
The army personnel boast a perfect record against Najip in head-to-head winning all seven matches including the 2014 final and keeping four clean sheets

Najip survive fiery tie to advance to cup final

    Fadhil Yunus
NAJIP I-Team reached the final of the Brunei DST FA Cup for the second time in three years after edging Tabuan Under-17 2-1 in a bad-tempered semi-final clash at the Track and Field Sports Complex yesterday.
The major highlight of a relatively normal cup tie was Tabuan Under-17 head coach Ali Mustafa being sent to the stands and the subsequent dismissal of one of his players Muhd Khairul Alimin Md Ali.
Both sides were involved in a seemingly common individual battle on the touch-line when an incident with the referee at the centre of the storm descended into chaos.
The incident sparked displeasure among a section of the supporters and many directed their frustrations to the match official who had to be escorted into the dressing room following the final whistle.
Muhd Hanif Aiman Haji Adanan had given the junior Tabuan the lead in the 18th minute but Najip drew level after Muhd Faiz Farhan Kamat equalised in the 30th minute.
Mohd Esmendy Brahim scored the winner for Najip three minutes after the hour mark after fending off a challenge by his marker and drilling home a fine finish past Tabuan shot-stopper Awangku Mohd Amirul Hakim Pengiran Haji Zulkarnain.

The young Tabuan side were awarded an indirect free-kick in the latter stages as they pushed for a goal but the ball rolled harmlessly for a goal-kick.
Najip’s head coach Haji Zulkifli Haji Momin felt proud after reaching a second final in three years since the 2-0 defeat to MS ABDB in 2014.
Despite facing pressure from their opponents in the final few minutes, the head coach revealed that the semi-final encounter against Indera SC proved a tougher test whom they also beat by the same score-line a couple of years ago.
He added that they will step up their preparations ahead of next week’s final as they look to lift silverware this season.
The head coach concluded that they have no preferences who they would like to meet in the final.
“We don’t mind meeting either MS ABDB or Indera SC, who are playing tonight, in the final”, said Haji Zulkifli.
The defeat brought an end to Tabuan Under-17’s memorable run-in to the last four of the premier cup competition after stunning top flight side MS PDB in the quarter-finals.
Meanwhile, there was a late scare at the end of the game after a Najip player required treatment.
Najip I Team will meet the winner of the MS ABDB and Indera SC tie who played at a later kick-off at the Tutong Sports Complex.

MS ABDB check into semis with slim win

     Fadhil Yunus
MS ABDB progressed to the semi-finals of the Brunei DST FA Cup 2016 after edging Kota Ranger FC 1-0 at the Berakas Sports Complex last night.
Abd Azizi Ali Rahman’s strike in the 47th minute proved enough to settle the contest which saw both sides struggling to cope with the pitch conditions following the early rainfall.
The notable absentees for the army personnel were national team players Mohd Baharin Hamidon and Razimie Ramlli who were ineligible for selection due to suspension.
First choice goalkeeper Mohd Tarmizi Haji Mat Johari, who featured in AFC Solidarity Cup games against Macau and Laos, Haji Mohd Yusof Haji Matyassin and Azizi Ali Rahman all made starts.
MS ABDB’s defender Haji Mohd Yusof Haji Matyassin lurked on the far post but ballooned his shot wide after reacting to a corner.
The army personnel delivered a good cross into the box but Khairuddin bin Mohd Azahari could not guide his header towards goal.

MS ABDB substitute Mohd Safarudin Azami gave chase to a loose ball deep into the second half and almost beat the last defender which would have given him only the goalkeeper in his sights but could not mark his appearance with a goal.
Meanwhile at the Tutong Sports Complex, Indera SC marched to the semi-finals after beating Kasuka FC 3-1.
Awangku Mohd Asrin gave Kasuka a dream start in the 3rd minute but Hamizan Aziz pegged his side back into level terms in the 18th minute.
Afindi Yati’s own goal in the 56th minute turned the tie on its head before Mohd Nur Akmal completed the scoring in the 69th minute.
MS ABDB will meet Indera SC in a mouth-watering clash in the semi-finals of the Brunei DST FA Cup on December 16 while the other semi-final pits Tabuan Under-17 and Najip I-Team.

MS ABDB survive scare to book spot in quarters

     Fadhil Yunus
MS ABDB survived a late scare to move into the quarterfinals of the Brunei DST FA Cup 2016 following a 3-2 victory in extra time over Al Idrus Junior FT at the Berakas Sports Complex last night.
The army personnel were staring elimination in the face and their proud history of appearing in every final in the competition on the line until Razimie Ramlli produced a last-gasp equaliser in the fifth minute of stoppage time to save his team’s blushes.
The national striker ultimately scored the winner not only to avoid penalties but send his team through to the last eight.
Md Yaakub Kassim goal in the 25th minute looked to have given the league newcomers, who must looked back how far they have grown since playing at the depths of non-league football just a year ago, an unlikely win.
MS ABDB fielded a nearly full strength squad with the exception of Brunei Darussalam striker Azizi Ali Rahman, who was suspended.
Three national players who were called into the national squad for the AFF Suzuki Cup qualifiers and AFC Solidarity Cup expectedly featured in the first team including goalkeeper Mohd Tarmizi Haji Mat Johari, Mohd Baharin Hamidon and Razimie Ramlli.
Al Idrus, meanwhile, left their experienced striker Adie Arsham Muhd Salleh on the bench.
The Brunei DST Premier League champions never really touched let alone kept the ball owing to the bulk of possession that MS ABDB enjoyed.

The Al Idrus goalkeeper was assisted by an organised defence as MS ABDB could not really meet the target though they had close shaves with forcing an equaliser.
The disciplinary column showed offences not related to injury but for unprofessional behaviour foul. As Razimie barged into a clearly annoyed Awangku Ammar Syafie Pengiran Hassanuddin, the Al Idrus player slammed the ball into the ground prompting the referee to flash him the yellow card.
Not long after, Baharon Hamidon got into the books of the referee after allegedly directing a kick to Al Idrus goalkeeper.
When the match official indicated five minutes of injury time, there was a concerned look in the Al Idrus camp and understandably so as they were put under constant pressure.
Still, Al Idrus were within seconds of a major upset with time ticking out for the defending champions but Razimie Ramlli planted a header from a corner which was more than they deserved.
The Brunei international was then shown the yellow card for removing his shirt but it was understandably so as he had just saved his team from a premature exit in the competition.
Just to put the scale of the upset into perspective, MS ABDB have appeared in every final since the inception of the competition in 2002 and have won it every time it was contested since the 2005/06 season.
Al Idrus retook the lead in the 94th minute through Adie Arsham but Baharin Hamidon levelled the tie for the second time in the 99th minute.
With penalties loomed, Razimie scored in the 119th minute and this time there were no time for the Al Idrus players to come back.
MS ABDB have three days of rest before they face Kota Ranger FC in the quarterfinals this Sunday at the Berakas Sports Complex.

MS ABDB crowned DST Super League champs

     Fadhil Yunus
MS ABDB was crowned champions of the Brunei DST Super League 2016 for the second consecutive season during a closing and prize presentation ceremony at the Berakas Sports Complex last night.
The army personnel have already beaten Wijaya FC when they met their title rivals Indera SC and their 5-0 drubbing put them on a smooth course for a title defence.
MS ABDB team manager Major (A) Razanol Hardi Abd Razak was humbled by the experience of retaining the league title and modestly said that there were teams as good as them in the league.
“It was a humbling experience because the higher you go, the more you need to be grounded. I have to remind myself that although it is an honour and a privilege, we cannot forget ourselves that the other teams are just as good as us,” he said told the Weekend Bulletin after the closing and prize presentation ceremony.
Major (A) Razanol took charge of first team affairs in his first full season since continuing the work of former team manager Major (A) Pengiran Mohd Farisan Pengiran Haji Metassan halfway through last season.
The head coach added he had more freedom of choosing the players and even brought in two new additions to the squad with the senior players serving as mentors.
“This season, I had the honour of getting more responsibility in getting more hands-on with the management of the team. As most managers would know, it is quite challenging,” he further added.

The second Super League title is Major (A) Razanol’s fourth major honour since taking over the reins as team manager and he highlighted that proper management and possessing discipline as key to ensuring success.
“It just proves that with proper management and the right team, attitude and discipline, one can achieve a lot. It is not just the contribution and dedication from the management but also from the team. They did very well and they were determined and professional,” the team manager concluded.
Meanwhile, Indera SC defeated Najip FC 3-0 to pip Wijaya FC into second place in the final day of the season through Hamizan Aziz Sulaiman and a brace from Asri Haji Aspar.
MS ABDB’s Abdul Azizi Ali Rahman scooped the top scorer award with 8 goals while team-mate Mohd Tarmizi Haji Mat Johari won the 2016 Brunei DST Super League Best Player award.
Indera SC clinched the first runners-up position with Wijaya FC finishing third while Tabuan Under-21 won the Fair Play award.
The guest of honour at the event was Abdul Latiff bin Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Setia Dato Paduka Haji Mohd Yussof, member of the Board of Directors of DST, who presented the prizes to the winners.

MS ABDB crowned DST Super League champions

THE Royal Brunei Armed Sports Council (MS ABDB) were crowned champions of the DST Super League at the Berakas Sports Complex last night.
MS ABDB now equal Indera Sports Club as the most successful team in the history of the DST Super League with two championship titles each.
The army men clinched their first DST Super League title last year while Indera won the title in the 2012/2013 and 2014 season.
The armymen claimed the title on September 4 when their closest challengers Indera were held to a 2-2 draw by Tabuan Under 21, a result that enabled them to create an unassailable lead at the top of the 10-team league table with 23 points.
The league came to close last night with Indera securing second to finish with 20 points after beating Najip I-Team 3-0, who finished fourth with 11 points.
Wijaya FC end the season third with 20 points behind Indera on goal difference while Tabuan Under 21 are fifth with 11 points to their name.
“We feel very honoured to win the title this year and we have waited until today to celebrate," said MS ABDB’s manager Major (A) Razanol Hardi Abdul Razak in an interview with The Brunei Times last night.
“I have to say that the wait makes the achievement feel more special.
“The key to our victory has always been football discipline, especially discipline during training and during matches.
“This victory is for the players, coaches and the management. They deserved it, and if it wasn’t for their dedication and professionalism, this victory would not be possible.
“This season has been great. We have players who got injured but that is normal. For me, the most important thing is to find new talent for the next season to replace retiring players.
“Our future plan will include hunting for new hidden young talent from the (Royal Brunei Armed Forces) RBAF so that we can give them the opportunity to contribute to our organisation and, indirectly, to football in our country,” he added.
MS ABDB finished the league unbeaten with seven wins and two draws, a result which the manager described as humbling.
“It hasn’t been an easy season,” he said.
“This year’s league had its own unique challenges, and it was tough. There were some unforeseen outside influences that affected our training and management this year, but overall we all feel humbled to finish unbeaten this season.
“The best players for us this season would be Abdul Azizi Ali Rahman, our top scorer, and our goalie Mohammad Tarmizi Hj Mat Johari. Both have been impressive at both ends for the club this season,” he added.
Abdul Azizi and Mohammad Tarmizi won the top scorer and best player of the tournament awards for MS ABDB.
Present as the guest of honour to award the prizes to the winners last night was DST Board of Directors member Abdul Latif Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Setia Dato Paduka Hj Md Yusuf.
Champions MS ABDB walked away with a cash prize of $14,000, the championship trophy and medals. Second-placed Indera won $10,000, a trophy and medals while third-placed Wijaya brought home $6,000 and medals.

Indera pounce on mistakes to punish Kasuka

     Fadhil Yunus

INDERA SC head coach Haji Omar bin Haji Jamil has attributed their 2-1 victory to their ability of carving space left by their opponents Kasuka FC in the Brunei DST Super League at the Berakas Sports Complex last night.

Indera took the lead through Mohammad Asri Haji Aspar before Md Mardi Mirza Abdullah Bujang equalised from the spot in the 35th minute for Kasuka FC after Muhd Hafis Mahari was brought down in the box.

However, Indera SC came up with the winner in the 75th minute after a good combination play in the box resulted in a fine effort by Awangku Mohd Haikal Pengiran Zaidi nestling into the bottom corner.

“It was a balanced match but we were able to exploit the free space. I think at the end of the day the team who committed an error would go on to lose,” said Haji Omar in an interview with the Bulletin.

Kasuka had a free-kick well saved by Indera SC shot-stopper Mohd Ahsanuddin Haji Mohd Dani.

The head coach revealed that he was satisfied with the result before adding the urgency to build on their victory by closing their matches in the first round with consecutive victories.

Haji Omar added that the current top five teams in the top division this season are equally competitive.

“As an example, Kasuka have just been promoted to the Super League but there are seasoned and experienced players in the squad,” Haji Omar said.

The team boast players who have represented the national team and have spent their playing career in the top flight.

The Jerudong team had players which sought for a new challenge in different clubs which explained that the Jerudong is currently in a period of transition with new players.

“The players from the Jerudong team last season have moved to other clubs,” Haji Omar said.

The head coach also emphasised that they need to win their remaining games in hand to stay in contention with the higher-placed teams.
