Hijrah FT will clash with BSRC in second round of DST Brunei FA Cup

Tuesday, October 16, 2012

THE SECOND round of the DST Brunei FA Cup will return tonight, pitting the non-league Hijrah FT against the Brunei Shell Recreation Club (BSRC) at the Balapan Track and Field at the Hassanal Bolkiah National Sports Complex in Berakas. Having only been formed this year, Hijrah FT are made up of players from Kampung Putat and Kampung Kasat in the Brunei-Muara District.

BSRC, on the other hand, played in last season's DST National Football League and will be competing in the National Football Association of Brunei Darussalam (NFABD) Premier League next season.

It has been a long break for the Brunei FA Cup teams after a three-month holiday due to the fasting month of Ramadhan, Hari Raya and Brunei Games and Hijrah FT head coach Heryzal Zaki has taken full advantage of the gap.

"It was a long holiday for us because of the Hari Raya and the Brunei Games, but it gave us more time to focus on our tactics and fitness for this game," he said yesterday.

"We never played BSRC before but we know that they are a good team any team that has made it to this stage of the tournament is a good team.

"We have been training for quite a while and we have had some friendly games in the past few months to get the teamwork and the fitness going.

"We will be without some of our young players because they are now having their exams, so we will try to balance the team and try to control the midfield," he added.

Hijrah FT defeated T-Ripas FC 4-0 in the first round of the tournament, with both Faizal Dullah and Mat Zidi Jumat scoring a brace in the victory.

The other 20 teams that also made it to the second round of the tournament are Besa FC, Indera SC, Muara Vella FC, Prison Department, Rimba Star FC, MPKS Matan, Tunas FC, Kilanas FC, Jerudong FC, Sporting FT, LLRC FT, Najip FC, QAF FC, Sewira FC, Majra FC, IKLS FC, Setia Perdana FC, Royal Brunei Armed Forces Sports Council (MS ABDB), Royal Brunei Police Forces Sports Council (MS PDB) and Lun Bawang FC.

The next round of matches on Saturday will see QAF FC take on MS ABDB in a battle between two of the biggest clubs in the country. IKLS FC face MPKS Matan in the days other game.

Organised by NFABD, the winners of the DST Brunei FA Cup 2012 will receive a challenge trophy, gold medals and a cash prize of $4,000. The runners-up will receive a trophy and medals, along with prize money of $3,000.
