ABDB To Meet Majra FC In Quarters

Bandar Seri Begawan - The first quarterfinal match in this year's DST FA Cup will see Majra FC take on MS ABDB, after the latter edged Sporting FT 1-0 in the third round clash at the Balapan Track and Field Complex.

MS ABDB should have had more to show for their dominant performance, and had it not been for a resilient and disciplined defensive performance by Sporting FT, a cricket score could so easily have been on the cards.

A goalless first half suggested that the game could be heading into extra time, but MS ABDB had other plans in mind.

The introduction of Pvt. Md Baharin at halftime changed the dynamics of the game, and the winger made an immediate impact, playing in teammate Pvt Abdul Azizi, who with the entire goal at his mercy, fired wide in the 49th minute.

Sporting FT were rarely given the chance to venture out of their own half, with MS ABDB goalkeeper having seen much busier days than last night.

However, whilst the scores remained 0-0, Sporting FT still had a shot at booking their place in the quarter-finals, but Lcpl Ak Mohd Safri bin Pg Hj Othman spared his side's blushes with what would be the winner in the 79th minute.

The midfielder laid the ball off to Pvt. Md Baharin, who returned possession to Lcpl Ak Mohd Safri, and his first time effort caught the Sporting FT goalkeeper off guard to hand MS ABDB a deserved lead to say the least.

Pvt. Md Baharin had the chance to put some gloss on his side's performance when he was set through on goal, having b,eaten the offside trap, but the winger's outside of the boot effort cannoned back out off the post.

The miss mattered little as a 1-0 win was enough to secure MS ABDB a berth in the quarter-finals.

In last night's other third round fixture, Rimba Star were beaten by Tunas FC 3-2 in an enthralling encounter.

Tunas FC will next face IKLS FC in the second quarterfinal of the DST FA Cup, which is set to be held almost a fort night after Majra FC and MS ABDB Clash (Nov 9), on Nov 25. All quarterfinal matches will be played at the Hassanal Bolkiah National Stadium.
