FATIGUED but definitely still a force to be reckoned with.
The Royal Brunei Armed Forces Sports Council (MS ABDB) triumphed 2-1 over the Royal Brunei Police Forces Sports Council (MS PDB) in their DST Super League match last night at the Hassanal Bolkiah National Stadium in Berakas.
Still reeling from the fatigue after their extra time win in the DST FA Cup final against Indera Sports Club on Monday, MS ABDB manager Major Azaman Hj Husin told The Brunei Times that fitness was the key to their win in last night's opener.
"A lot of our players are still tired from the FA Cup and it affected their playing and focus but their fitness helped us win the game," said Major Azaman.
"It was a good game for us in the first half, we controlled the game very well," he said, adding that they had to play with more emphasis on defence due to the injury of team captain SLD Affendy Hj Akup.
"Although they (MS PDB) managed to get a goal in the second half, we added another midfielder to ensure we held on to the lead and the game," said the manager.
Both teams were equally potent on offence and equally stingy on defence despite employing different tactics.
MS ABDB relied on the long ball while MS PDB employed a tiki-taka style of play.
The armymen got ahead just one minute into the game via a SLD Budiman Jumat free kick which sailed into the back of the net, out of the reach of MS PDB goalkeeper Lance Corporal Md Khairol Amin Hj Zainuddin.
SLD Budiman would score his brace and doubled his team's lead in the 14th minute after sprinting past his defender before blasting the ball into the right side of the net.
Despite being two goals down, the MS PDB fans kept chanting and cheering to encourage their team.
The fans were rewarded with a consolation goal in the 81st minute when team captain Corporal Rosmini Hj Abu Kahar dribbled past two defenders to lob it over MS ABDB goalkeeper SLD Mohd Tarmizi Hj Mat Johari.
