THE ROYAL Brunei Police Forces Sports Council (MS PDB) jumped from sixth to second in the DST Super League after easing to a 5-0 win against Najip FC last night.

Handcuffing their basement-dwelling opponents in midfield, the policemen enjoyed a majority of possession and space throughout the match at the Hassanal Bolkiah National Stadium in Berakas.

They now trail leaders Indera Sports Club by just one goal in the standings.

Najip, though, were never really in the game and showed why they are the only side yet to pick up a point in the 10-team league after their poor passing saw them spend nearly all of the 90 minutes inside their own half.

The scoreline was probably too flattering for the policemen though, who scored their last three goals in the final 12 minutes though the three points were seldom in doubt judging by their commanding display in the opening exchanges.

Mohd Fazizzul Hussin scored a brace in the 15th and 78th minute, sandwiched by a 70th minute goal from Md Syarafuddin Hamdi Hj Talip.

MS PDB captain Rosmini Hj Abd Kahar netted a late brace in the 91st and 92nd minute but later admitted he didn't expect such a convincing win.

"Maybe they were loose during the latter stages of the game ... and that made it easier for us," he said.

"We kept attacking at the end and I'm happy we were able to improve our goal difference," added the former DPMM FC midfielder.

Playing high up the pitch and always quick to apply pressure on Najip whenever they lost the ball, MS PDB were easily able to find space especially on the right flank, where winger Md Syarafuddin and right-back Mohd Zulkhairie Hj Md Salleh made some telling runs.

Mohd Fazizzul opened the scoring after poking home the ball after a corner from Rosmini, but despite controlling the rest of the half, MS PDB had to be satisfied with a 1-0 lead at the break.

Najip got their passing game into gear at the start of the second half but the policemen soon wore them down, and after cutting in from the left, Md Syarafuddin's deflected shot left the Najip goalkeeper rooted to the spot and gave them a 2-0 lead.

The next goal ended the match as a competition.

Mohd Fazizzul connected on a cross from the right with a perfectly timed volley and the ball launched itself to the bottom right corner and knocked the wind out of Najip's ailing sails definitely the goal of the night.

Md Syarafuddin delivered a well-timed through ball which sliced the Najip defence late in the game, and Rosmini ran onto it and expertly placed the ball into the back of the net.

It was 5-0 right after the restart when a poor clearance from the Najip goalkeeper landed at a MS PDB player, and his shot bounced off centre-back Awg Hj bin Hj Awg Tengah and onto the awaiting Rosmini.

Seventh in the table, Wijaya FC have the chance to move up to third when they face QAF FC at the Balapan Track and Field, Hassanal Bolkiah National Sports Complex tonight at 9.
