ASNAWI Syazni Abdul Aziz scored a late goal to rescue Jerudong FC to a 1-1 draw against Liang Lumut Recreational Club Football Team (LLRC) in their DST Super League match last night.

Asnawi Syazni was the fastest to a scramble in front of the goal and his 83rd minute goal at the Hassanal Bolkiah National Stadium in Berakas ensured both teams would not go home empty handed.

LLRC head coach Hj Affendi Hj Julaih was disappointed his team failed to leave the pitch with all three points.

"We were very unlucky. We could not hold on to the lead. It was just down to one mistake at the back that cost us the win. If they cleared the ball earlier we would have gotten all three points tonight," he said.

"We were comfortable and had the momentum in the first half. But in the second-half Jerudong went all out in search for goals and we expected (such a response)," he added.

"For now, our target is to be in the top five in the league. We will play Majra FC in our last game," continued Hj Affendi.

LLRC threatened with long balls in the first-half and they broke the deadlock early in the 13th minute.

Md Helmi Md Noorazmi had possession of the ball just outside the box and he out-manoeuvered the Jerudong defenders before firing in a shot to beat Jerudong goalkeeper Ismainuddin Hj Mohammad.

Md Amirul Jafrey Md Norshaney almost doubled their lead in similar fashion a few minutes later but saw his effort fly over the bar.

Jerudong's Mohd Esmendy Hj Brahim could have levelled the scores just before the break after he rose highest on a corner but saw his header fall wide.

The tempo slowed down at the start of the second half with Jerudong establishing themselves as the superior team on offence.

They kept pushing forward at every opportunity and their efforts finally paid off with Asnawi Syazni's late equaliser.

The draw sees LLRC move into fourth place while Jerudong climb up to seventh in the league table.

The competition continues tonight with QAF FC going up against Najip FC at the Balapan Track & Field of the Hassanal Bolkiah National Sports Complex in Berakas at 8.
