MAJRA FC fought to salvage a 2-2 draw against Wijaya FC in the DST Super League at the Balapan Track and Field at the Hassanal Bolkiah National Sports Complex in Berakas last night.

The result saw both teams claiming a point each with Majra FC taking fourth spot over Liang Lumut Recreational Club Football Team (LLRC FT) on goal difference while Wijaya FC climbed to seventh place over Jerudong FC.

Wijaya's captain Marhazif Ahad put his team ahead in the 45th minute after running onto a pass to slot the ball low past Majra's goalkeeper. A minute after the break, Ak Anaqi Sufi Pg Hj Omar Baqi doubled the lead with a chip over the goalkeeper after following through an awkward bounce.

Majra's first reply came through Dannie Hendra Mohd Idris close range shot that gave Wijaya FC's goalkeeper no chance. An unmarked Ahmad Hafiz Said's made it 2-2 after connecting with a cross from right with a header in the 58th minute.

Following the leveller, Majra looked more convincing in attack with neat overlapping displays between fullbacks and winger who were constantly supplying crosses into the box.

Wijaya were reduced to their own side of the field for most of the second half with their backline defending valiantly against the onslaught from Majra.

All that defending became a foundation for Wijaya's counter-attack which saw Majra start to rack up yellow cards following harsh tackles. Majra were then reduced to 10 men in the 80th minute after defender and captain Yusof Md Salleh was booked for the second time after tripping a Wijaya player on the run.

Despite being a man down, Majra were still aggressively attacking and controlling ball possession but Wijaya continued to hold the fort to end scores at level.

Wijaya's team manager Ahyana Hj Tali praised his defenders who were up for the task against a rampaging Majra attack which was more prominent in the last 20 minutes of the game.

"Majra was attacking very efficiently with their players but I have the defensive line to thank for because they put in a lot of effort to ensure that Majra would not score again," he told The Brunei Times. "The two goals before and after half-time really helped us to settle in although it was a bit late."

Meanwhile, QAF FC will take on league leaders Royal Brunei Armed Forces Sports Council (MS ABDB) at the Hassanal Bolkiah National Stadium in Berakas at 8.15pm.
