MOHAMMAD Hafis Mahari scored a hat-trick as QAF FC edged Kilanas FC
4-3 in the DST Super League last night at the Hassanal Bolkiah National
Stadium in Berakas. It was harsh on Kilanas who fought back from 3-1 down in the first half to level the score at 3-3 in the second. Kilanas controlled the game in the last 45 minutes with a number of goal opportunities until QAF striker Mohammad Hafis' late goal ended their resistance in the game.
Mohammad Hafis' winner, which came in the 83rd minute, moved QAF FC into fifth place in the table with 10 points, six points behind leaders Royal Brunei Armed Forces Sports Council (MS ABDB).
"We thought that we finished the game off when we were 3-1 up in the first half. But Kilanas played very well in the second half as they managed to control the game and score two goals," said QAF FC manager Rahim Hj Daud in an interview with The Brunei Times after the win.
"There is no doubt that we controlled the game in the first half, but the players were a bit complacent in the second half and let Kilanas back into the game. However, I am still happy with the win and we take the three points tonight (Sunday night)," he added.
QAF took an early lead when Ratano Hj Tuah scored from 30 metres out to beat Kilanas goalkeeper Mohammad Faisal Hashim in the goal in the ninth minute.
QAF FC's fluid passes overwhelmed Kilanas in the first half and Mohammad Hafis doubled his team's lead in the 29th minute. Catching the opponent's defence napping, the QAF FC striker did brilliantly getting into space to power a header past the goalkeeper following a Mushready Chuchu's cross from the right.
Mohammad Hafis scored his second in the 40th minute before Mohd Nor Hidayatullah Hj Zaini pulled one goal back just before the break to bring the scoreline to 3-1.
The second half saw Kilanas dominate the game. Mohd Nor Hidayatullah fired a free-kick just wide and Mohd Nazirul Azim Hj Anuar came close to scoring for Kilanas when his close range header was brilliantly tipped over the bar by goalkeeper Junaidi Akim within the first 10 minutes after the interval.
Kilanas eventually found their second goal in the 56th minute when Izzul Wazien Osman beautifully latched onto a corner from the left before firing the ball past the hapless QAF FC goalkeeper at the goal.
Mohd Razi Hj Lamit would make it 3-3 in the 76th minute scoring from inside the penalty box after latching onto a long ball from Mohd Nor Hidayatullah.
However, Mohammad Hafis would break the heart of Kilanas players and fans when he tapped home Riwandi Wahit's cross from the right with only seven minutes left on the clock.
The competition continues today with the Royal Brunei Police Force Sports Council (MS PDB) going up against LLRC FT at the Balapan Track and Field of the Hassanal Bolkiah National Sports Complex in Berakas. Kick off is at 8.15pm.
