Sunday, August 9, 2015

THE Royal Brunei Armed Forces Sports Council (MS ABDB) maintained their winning streak after scoring a 2-0 win over Lun Bawang in the DST Super League at the Hassanal Bolkiah National Stadium last night.

Goals from Pvt Mohammad Khairuddin Abd Kadir and Pvt Affendy Hj Akup helped MS ABDB secure three points. The victory also lifted MS ABDB to the second place in the table, overtaking Najip I-Team thanks to the former’s goal difference of 15.

Pvt Mohammad Khairuddin broke the deadlock in the eighth minute from a crossed free-kick and straight shot into the goal.

Lun Bawang’s shaky defence was more apparent when MS ABDB Captain Pvt Affendy scored a goal, crossed from the corner by Pvt Mohammad Baharin Hamidon in the 21st minute.

Lun Bawang created a few chances, one of which a close header in the 34th minute after earning a free-kick, but Petrus Jumat’s shot hit the bar.

In the second half both teams failed to score, but MS ABDB have defended well against the bottom-placed team.

Lun Bawang’s Mohd Alikhan Hj Mohd Yakob crossed a potential goal for Yunus Lupat, but missed by an inch in the 63rd minute.

Lun Bawang refused to give up as towards the end of the second half, Yunus pushed forward twice for a goal on target, but was easily saved by MS ABDB’s goalkeeper Pvt Ak Hairman Pg Hj Mohd.

Despite their lead, MS ABDB attempted a third goal in the stoppage time with a shot from the corner but Lun Bawang’s goalkeeper Romaino saved on the whistle blown, ensuring MS ABDB’s second place in the table.
