Jerudong, IKLS game cancelled

Saturday, September 19, 2015

JERUDONG FC manager Hj Md Jalaludin Hj Ghazali was left disappointed following the cancellation of their DST Super League match against IKLS FC last night.

Jerudong was leading 1-0 before match officials put the game to a halt in the 31st minute due to a burst floodlight on one side of the pitch at the Berakas Sports Complex.

After a 30-minute wait, the match was eventually cancelled. The game will now be held at a venue and date which is to be confirmed.

“I was very disappointed with the cancellation. Our players have been training a lot for this game and we could have won tonight if it wasn’t for the burst floodlight,” he said in an interview with The Brunei Times.

“We lost two games prior to tonight’s match, and in those 30 minutes, it (victory) was ours. We had our momentum, but it’s just our luck that the floodlights had to burst.

“However, I understand that the match officials were doing their job and it was for the safety of our players too,” he added.

The sixth placed team lost their first two second round games against two-time DST Super League defending champions Indera Sports Club and Tabuan Muda (national Under-23 football team).

Meanwhile, IKLS FC manager Hj Md Ali Rahman Hj Sulaiman was delighted at the match’s cancellation, saying that it was a blessing in disguise for the newly promoted team.

“We were down 1-0 with Jerudong consistently attacking us, and I felt that it was a blessing that the match was cancelled,” he said.

“We could have lost… But we have been given a second chance,” he said.

“This also gives us time to reassess our tactics and our gameplay
.
“I admit we are not doing so well in the campaign, but any chance we get, we will not waste it,” he concluded.

Meanwhile, the DST Super League will resume tonight with league leaders Royal Brunei Armed Forces Sports Council (MS ABDB) facing third placed Najip I-Team at the Balapan Track and Field, Hassanal Bolkiah National Sports Complex in Berakas.

Indera will face bottom dwellers Kilanas FC at the Berakas Sports Complex.
