THE Royal Brunei Armed Forces Sports Council (MS ABDB)’s manager Major (A) Razanol Hardi Abd Razak is eyeing a treble for his team this season - The DST Super League, The DST FA Cup and The DST Sumbangsih Cup.

The army men clinched their very first DST Super League title over bitter rivals Indera Sports Council (SC) in October last year. They went on to win their third DST FA Cup after beating Indera 3-2 in December.

“2015 has been a great year but now the pressure starts,” Major Razanol said in an interview with The Brunei Times during the MS ABDB awards ceremony at the Star Lodge Hotel, Jerudong yesterday.

“We are eyeing a treble, but this season, we will be facing very tough teams.

"Kota Rangers FC who went on unbeaten in the DST Premier League are a team to watch out for, especially they have a team filled with former DPMM FC and national players - captain Pg Sallehuddin Pg Hj Damit being one of them," he added.

Major Razanol praised the army men’s star player, Pvt Abdul Azizi Ali Rahman, who was voted as the season’s MS ABDB top scorer, the most valuable player (MVP) and best striker.

“Pvt Abdul Azizi is a natural footballer. It runs in his family. DPMM FC’s up and rising star, Muhammad Azwan Ali Rahman is his brother and we all can see where the talent came from,” Major Razanol said.

“Pvt Abdul Azizi thoroughly deserved these accolades and I know he can win more this season,” he said.

“He could’ve been the top scorer for the DST Super League, but his injuries set him back last year.

“At the end of the day, we are a team, and football is about the team. We are proud of him, but the ultimate victory comes from the team’s effort - and that is our motto too,” he said.

Major Razanol also said his team will be focusing on youth development.

“We have lots of plans for this season, one of which we will be starting to recruit and train younger soldiers to compete in the league,” he said.

“We shall see how we fare this season, we can only plan and plan. This is football, anything can happen,” he concluded.

The awards ceremony was attended by guest of honour, the Commander of the Royal Brunei Air Force Colonel (U) Shahril Anwar Hj Ma’awiah with charity donations from the army men to The Centre for Children with Special Needs (KACA), The Children’s Cancer Foundation (YASKA) and Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Saleha (RIPAS) Hospital.
