THE Royal Brunei Police Force Sports Council (MS PDB) started off their DST Super League campaign with a 3-0 win over QAF FC yesterday.

Sumbangsih Cup champions, the Royal Brunei Armed Forces Sports Council faced a shock 3-2 defeat to Liang Lumut Recreational Club Football Team at the Padang Arena in Seria in yesterday’s other match.

Another surprise came at the Balapan Track and Field of the Hassanal Bolkiah National Stadium in Berakas where Najip FC, who didn’t pick up a single point last season, went past Kilanas 2-0 FC in their first game of the season - a morale boosting vistory for sure.

QAF FC and MS PDB started off the game with a bang, getting straight into aggressive offensive play.
MS PDB were eventually awarded a free kick just 5m out of the box, which saw Mohd Bohari Mohd Hasan sneak the ball past QAF FC’s wall before seeing it deflect off the woodwork and into the goal for a 1-0 lead.

QAF FC’s Mohd Adie Arsham Mohd Saleh was close to equalising five minutes later but he misjudged his header in front of an open goal.

MS PDB were awarded a penalty after QAF FC’s Petrus Jumat went in for a vicious slide tackle on Mohd Zul Khairie Hj Mohd Salleh, which led to the latter’s substitution with Mohd Nazirul Arsat in the 26th minute.

Mohd Bohari went on to capitalise on the chance and found his second of the night after slotting the ball into the bottom right of the goal at the Berakas Sports Complex.

Mohd Adie created another outstanding attempt at goal after making his way through MS PDB’s defence before sending in a screamer to the bottom right corner which was denied by Md Khairol Amin Hj Zainuuddin’s diving save.

QAF FC came out as the stronger pack in the second half and forced MS PDB to clear their lines several times.

Mohd Adie found his way into the penalty box once again but ruined his chances at goal after hitting the right post.

QAF FC’s misfortunes continued after Muhd Hafis Mahari let his pumped-up emotions get to him after a sliding tackle in the 53rd minute.

On a counter-attack down the right flank, Muhd Hafis was hacked down by Norazmiezul Maipaizan Hj Hamidon and made the mistake of pushing a MS PDB player out of the way when trying to get at Norazmiezul.

Both players were shown red cards but that didn’t stop MS PDB from flinging into action leading into the dying minutes.

Substitute Mohd Nazirul finished the night off with a goal to his name after a loose ball in the penalty box rolled to his feet in the 88th minute.

MS PDB manager Staff Sgt Sahrin Hj Md Jaya said his aim for their opening game was to seal the three points.

“It didn’t matter how many goals we won by, so long as we got the win,” said Sahrin, whose team beat QAF FC 4-1 in last year’s fixture.

“The game was a little bit slow because of the pitch, and not only that, the match official wasn’t really consistent because he wasn’t always making the right calls.

“I tried to tell them to keep the ball on our side during the second half, and if they saw a chance, they could try break through QAF FC and attack,” he said, adding that the only change they have to make for their next game would be for left back Norazmiezul.

MS PDB’s next take to the field against Majra United on Saturday while QAF FC take on defending champions Indera SC on Sunday.
