KILANAS FC edged Jerudong FC 4-3 in their DST Super League game at the Berakas Sports Complex last night to cement their spot at seventh in the table.

Though Jerudong were able to give as good as they got and went ahead just before the break, they failed to maintain their momentum and remain ninth in the 10-team league.

Kilanas got off to a strong start by jumping right out of the gates, attacking and pressuring their opponents and hardly letting them see any of the ball in the opening five minutes at the Berakas Sports Complex.

It did not take long for Kilanas to open the scoring and Jerudong were put in a bind very early on.

Kilanas won a 10th minute corner which saw Mohd Khalid Wassadisalleh whip in a curling cross to the near post, and Mohd Nurhidayatullah Hj Zaini was there to tap the ball past Jerudong goalkeeper to give Kilanas the lead.

However, Mohd Asnawi Syazni Abdul Aziz would reply five minutes later to level the scores.
Kilanas’ passing proved too much to deal with and Jerudong were again were forced back.

Mohd Nurhidayatullah would put Kilanas in front in the 25th minute when he scored from outside the penalty box following a swift counter attack.

Abang Hariz Abang Hadzman had a chance to double Kilanas’ lead a while later, but with only the goalkeeper to beat from a few metres out, the midfielder put his effort just wide of the post.

Mohd Bazli Mohd Said had two chances to put Jerudong level when he was set through inside the penalty box, but the striker would fire his shot straight to the goalkeeper first time and sent his shot over the bar the second time.

But the 23-year-old would not miss the third time when he was set through by Mohd Asnawi Syazni, and finished calmly by slotting the ball past the goalkeeper in the 43rd minute.

Mohd Asnawi Syazni would made it 3-2 in the final minute of the first half as Kilanas’ defenders could not keep up with the 18-year-old who made a solo run from midfield before blasting the ball in at the bottom left corner.
The second half began in the exact same way as the first half - with an early goal.

Abang Hariz made a thunderous shot from twenty metres out to defeat the Jerudong goalkeeper as Kilanas once again levelled the scores 15 minutes after the restart.

Izzul Wazien Osman would score from a free-kick 10 minutes later as Kilanas led for the third time in the game.

Kilanas would show more quality in the final 20 minutes as Mohd Nurhidayatullah had two chances to seal his hat trick, yet Jerudong would not allow it.

“We played well tonight but we lost concentration late in the first half,” said Kilanas head coach Sidek Eya in an interview with The Brunei Times after the win.

“We regrouped in the second half and I asked my players to continue the way we play and not to lose focus again.

“In the end, we got the three points that we needed.”
