A DOMINANT Royal Brunei Armed Forces Sports Council (MS ABDB) beat Wijaya FC 4-1 in their DST Super League game at the Berakas Sports Complex last night, the victory stretching their lead over second-placed Indera Sport Club to eight points with eight games to play.

The army men now have 27 points while Indera, who have beat MS ABDB to the league title for the past two years, have 19 points - but with a game in hand.

Talking to The Brunei Times, MS ABDB manager Major Pg Muhd Farisan Pg Hj Metassan said there is still a long way to go for the two-time runners-up who kicked off the league’s second round last night.

“I am very happy with the win and my players really played well tonight,” said Major Pg Muhd Farisan.

“The performance really showed the hard work we did in training as we dominated the whole game.

“The fitness, teamwork, robustness and mentality of my team is really strong at the moment.

“Our aim is to maintain our winning streak and go as far as we can.

“We are not thinking of the title yet as there are still a lot of games, but we will keep on working hard,” he continued.

MS ABDB broke the deadlock in the 22nd minute after a low cross from the right found Pvt Abd Azizi Ali Rahman in the penalty box, who scored against Wijaya goalkeeper Md Burhanuddin Hj Edy Asmady with a tap-in.

MS ABDB doubled their lead two minutes later through a long-range strike by L/Cpl Ak Mohd Safri Pg Hj Othman to the bottom left corner of the goal post.

Wijaya’s shaky defence was exploited again as Pvt Razimie Ramli scored the third goal of the game after a beautiful low cross from the right by L/Cpl Mohammad Bahari Hamidon in a goal which was nearly identical to the first.

Wijaya tried to change the game by pressing forward more in the second half, and in the 48th minute, the referee awarded them a penalty after Khalil Saab was brought down in the box by Pvt Mohd Khairuddin Abd Kadir.

Marzahif Ahad converted the penalty to make it 3-1 but MS ABDB’s Pvt Razimie Ramli put the game beyond Wijaya’s reach after he scored his second of the night in the 69th minute after a one-two with Pvt Abd Azizi.

Prior to the game, Major Pg Muhd Farisan said he was confident with his team’s form this year - insisting that consistency is important to winning the league.

“Consistency is key, and in this second leg, you will see a more robust, disciplined and tactically improved MS ABDB,” he told The Brunei Times on Wednesday.

“So far we have won eight games and only lost one, and that one loss against Jerudong (on Aug 16) was a wake-up call that we cannot be complacent in our games.

The competition continues tonight with Kilanas FC taking on Najip I-Team at the Balapan Track and Field, Hassanal Bolkiah National Sports Complex while Lun Bawang will face the Royal Brunei Police Force Sports Council (MS PDB) at the Berakas Sports Complex.

Both matches kick-off at 8.15pm.

Indera - who have lost two matches this season - will have the chance to cut the eight-point deficit when they play IKLS FC at the Berakas Sports Complex at 8.15pm on Monday.

MS ABDB, meanwhile, take on MS PDB in their next game on Friday at the Tutong Sports Complex.
