THE
Royal Brunei Armed Forces Sports Council (MS ABDB) are not taking
anything for granted in tonight’s pivotal DST Super League match against
Kilanas FC.Top of the 10-team table with 42 points, the army men only need three points in their next three games to win the league and can wrap up their first DST Super League title if they beat bottom dwellers Kilanas at the Tutong Sports Complex tonight.
Despite enjoying a healthy 10-point lead over two-time DST Super League defending champions Indera SC, who have a game in hand, MS ABDB interim manager Major (A) Razanol Hardi Abd Razak said his players have to keep their focus on the task at hand.
“It’s true that we just need three points to secure our first-ever DST Super League title, and everyone expects us to win against Kilanas,” he said in an interview with The Brunei Times.
“The head-to-head statistics suggest that we can beat them with ease, but I disagree.
“This is football and anything can happen. Even in stoppage time or the very last second of the match, something can happen that can make or break a team.
“That’s what we are preparing for,” he added.
Taking their 2-1 come from behind win against Jerudong FC last Sunday as an example of their spirit and determination, Major (A) Razanol said he wanted to see more of the same attitude tonight.
“The match against Jerudong was tough, especially when we trailed 1-0 in the first half,” he said.
“However, we are soldiers and we never give up.
“We must remain focused, maintain the momentum and we shall see what the outcome will be,” he added.
Speaking to Roney Morni @ Saidin, the Kilanas head coach readily agreed that his men are the underdogs heading into tonight’s game.
Their sole win was a 3-2 result against ninth placed IKLS FC last month, and they only have those three points to show from their 13 matches this season.
“Our campaign has not been good and we are definitely the underdogs,” he said.
“MS ABDB are a very strong team and we know this is a very crucial match for them to win.
“However, we will not go down without a fight. We have been training over the last few weeks specifically for this match.
“We have been thoroughly studying the MS ABDB’s weaknesses and will do our best to take our opportunities.
“MS ABDB have more to lose than we do, so we know they will bring their A-game.
“We can only do our best, and give the army men a good challenge.
“This is football… Who knows what might happen? We might pull off a surprise.”
