Menglait finish season second from bottom

MENGLAIT FC failed to move out of second from bottom in the DST Super League after they were defeated 3-1 by basement dwellers Jerudong FC at the Berakas Sports Complex last night.
Menglait, who were promoted to Brunei’s top flight in the 2016 season, needed a victory to climb above Najip who would have been sweating over developments in Berakas.
Menglait swapped places with ninth-placed Najip after Khalid Wassadi Salleh Haji Mahmud scored the opener in the 7th minute.
However, they were dragged to where they started before the match after Mudzaffar Al-Arif bin Haji Abdur Rafae’a restored parity in the 57th minute.
Jerudong FC, playing for pride, took the lead after Asnawi Syaznin bin Abd Aziz found the back of the net in the 68th minute.
At this stage, Menglait needed two goals as they looked to move out of second from bottom but their fate were sealed after Md Uzaiz bin Zaini provided the killer blow for Jerudong in the 85th minute.
Jerudong and Menglait may be meeting each other again next season after the former delivered what could prove one of the decisive results of the campaign.
The DST Super League continues with Lun Bawang taking on Tabuan Muda ‘A’ at the Batu Apoi Sports Complex in the Temburong district today.
Tabuan Muda could leapfrog into sixth place with a win while Lun Bawang could move four points clear over them if they take all three points.
