Police Take On Soldiers In Football Final

Kuala Belait - MS PDB left it late to beat Belait in the second football semifinal of the Brunei Darussalam National Games 2012, with Muhammad Fazizul bin Hussin stepping up to score an extra time winner to hand Brunei's law enforcers a well-deserved 3-2 victory at the Berakas Sports Complex last night.

It was Belait who took the initiative as Md Amirul Zafrey bin Norshaney latched on to a ball over the top from midfield, taking a touch before lashing a shot past APO 6533 Ak Mohd Muizzuddin bin Pg Ismail to put his side one up with 22 minutes played.

The goal sparked MS PDB into action, and the men in black responded almost immediately through Captain APO 6712 Mohd Syarafuddin Hamdi bin Hj Talip, whose shot from the right, just inside the penalty box, had Belait keeper Firman Taufik Nugra beaten all hands down to even the score five minutes after Belait's opener.

The energetic midfielder would get his brace before the break, scoring from an almost identical position in the 32nd minute, but this time adding some finesse to his effort, curling the ball round the outstretched Firman.

It wasn't until the opening minutes of the second half that Belait re'sponded. A cross from the right was controlled by Md Fakhrullah bin Hj Md Azanie, who had enough time to pick his spot from inside the box and draw his side level with 39 minutes still left to play.

Both sides would come close in the dying minutes of normal time, but neither came up with a decisive strike, which sent the game into extra time.

Cue Muhammad Fazizul, who latched onto a loose ball after several failed clearance attempts by the Belait defence, hitting the ball first time to net the winner from no more than 7 yards out.

MS PDB will now play MS ABDB, who beat Brunei-Muara 2-1 on Tuesday night, at the Berakas Sports Complex at 8.15pm, whilst the 3rd and 4th playoff match will be played at the same venue, but kicks off four and a half hours earlier, at 3.45pm.
