MOHAMMAD Fazizul Hussin extra time goal in the 97th minute helped Royal Brunei Police Force Sports Council (MS PDB) to edge Belait 3-2 in the semifinal of the 2012 Brunei Games football competition at the Berakas Sports Complex last night.

Muhammad Fazizul controlled a miss-hit Mohammad Bohari Mohammad Hassan shot before firing home the winner to send the policemen into the final.

The defending champion will go up against the Royal Brunei Armed Forces Sports Council (MS ABDB) on Friday in what will be a repeat of the previous edition of Brunei Games in 2010. In that particular meeting the policemen defeated MS ABDB 5-4 in a penalty shootout after the two sides had been locked 3-3 after 120 minutes.

"It will be a repeat of the last final. We will play MS ABDB again this year and of course we look forward to play them and defend the title this year," said MS PDB manager, Inspector Muhammad Kenny Sulaiman Abdullah Yawang.

"It was a nervous win. We controlled the game in the first fifteen minutes until Belait scored their first goal and we lost a bit of focus. But we managed to get back in the game when our captain (Mohd Syarafuddin Hamdi Hj Talip) scored the goal five minutes later.

"Belait is a very strong team. They gave us a lot of problems in the defence, but in the end we managed to get the team together to look for the winning goal," added the manager.

Though MS PDB came out the more energetic side pushing many players behind the ball on the attack their dominance was short-lived when Belait's Md Amirul Zafrey Norshaney found the net in the 22nd minute.

Captain Mohd Syarafuddin Hamdi levelled the score in the 27th minute with a great solo effort from the right side of the field before firing in a diagonal shot from inside the box. He then added his second of the night five minutes later to give MS PDB a 2-1 lead going into the second half.

However, Mohd Fakrullah Hj Mohd Azanie equalled the scores six minutes after the break. Both sides failed to score in the 90 minutes and the semi-final went to extra time where Mohammad Fazizul Hussin went on to break Belaits heart and led the MS PDB to march into the final.
