MS PDB Down Wijaya FC 2-1

Bandar Seri Begawan - MS PDB left it late to overcome a stubborn Wijaya FC 2-1 at the Berakas Track and Field Complex yesterday afternoon.

There were no real talking points in the first half as the two teams entered the tunnel at the break on level terms.

The game started to gather momentum after the restart and became all the more appetising when Abg Fakhri bin Abg Jaludin Boleyn belter from outside the box caught L/Cpl 4673 Md Khairol Amin H Zainuddin off-guard in the 50th minute.

Wijaya FC should have doubled their tally just moments later when Mohd Azmi bin Hj Hamzah's powerful header following a corner struck the keeper's right-hand post.

Abg Muhd Fakhri bin Abg Jaludin was also guilty of squandering a golden opportunity to give Wijaya FC some breathing space when he latched onto a long ball over the top of the MS PDB backline, shouldering off a defender, before prodding the ball over the keeper, only to see his effort land agonisingly wide off the goal.

Wijaya FC would come to regret those misses when, seven minutes from time, PC 5609 Mohd Zulkhairi Hj Md Salleh beat his marker to the by-line, and his low centre was met by PC 5823 Mohd Huzairol Mohd Idris, who slid in to glance the ball in from close range.

With two minutes still left on the clock, it was anybody's game for the taking, and it was quite apparent who was the hungrier of the two sides.

Some brilliant interplay on the left wing afforded PC 5359 Md Saiful Rizal bin Hj Awang the time and space to launch a dangerous ball into the box, which was met emphatically on the first-time volley by PC 5701 Mohd Fazizzul Hussin to steal all three points for MS PDB.

The win saw MS PDB climb into third in the standings on 10 points, leading Indera SC only on goal difference after their 2-0 defeat at the hands of Majra United FC in the evening fixture.

Faizal bin Mohammad's 16th minute effort and Noor Raimi@Shahremy bin Karim's stoppage time were enough to take all three points home, meaning Majra United FC now lie second in the table on 11 points, just a single point behind MS ABDB, who have a game in hand.

The DST Super League will resume tonight, where Kilanas FC take on whipping boys, Najip FC, who are without a point after four games at the Berakas Track and Field Complex. Kick-off is at 9pm.
