NAJIP FC and Jerudong FC shared the spoils after they played out to a 0-0 stalemate in the DST Super League last night.

Jerudong had the bulk of the chances but Najip goalkeeper Abd Hafiz Abd Rahim was in brilliant form to deny his opponents at the Balapan Track and Field of the Hassanal Bolkiah National Sports Complex in Berakas.

Mohd Bazli Mohd Said came close in the 23rd minute for Jerudong with an attempt from inside the box, only to see his attempt go inches wide off the post.

Muhd Arif Ali Rahman tried a long range shot five minutes later but Abd Hafiz got his fingertips to it.
The next chance for Jerudong came in the 33rd minute after Hidayatur Rahim Aliuddin put Muhd Arif through but Abd Hafiz put up an acrobatic save to deny the goal.

Jerudong almost got in front on the hour mark through Mohd Esmendy Brahim after he fired a low shot but Abd Hafiz managed to push the ball out for a corner.

Najip FC had a good chance four minutes later but Abd Afiq Roslan saw his shot deflect off a Jerudong defender and just over the crossbar.

Jerudong captain Hj Shariful Bahrin Hj Zainal got a shot on target in the 72nd minute but the Najip custodian once again came up with another save.

Another chance came begging for Jerudong two minutes later but Reniel Ruani had his shot denied by Abd Hafiz.

Ampuan Mohd Endy Azri Ampuan Hj Idris almost stole all three points for Najip in the 88th minute but Jerudong custodian Mohd Adri Abd Kahar was not to be beaten at the near post.

Jerudong would finish the match with 10 men after Reniel was sent off for a challenge in injury time.

Hj Md Jalaluddin Hj Ghazali, the Jerudong head coach, felt that it was a fair result.

“It is a fair result as we haven’t been training as much. The players are demotivated as we have had a lot of games postponed,” said Hj Md Jalaluddin in an interview with The Brunei Times after the match.

“It killed the momentum for us but our performance tonight (Wednesday night) was alright. I’m still happy eventhough we would have loved to win it,” he added.

Najip assistant coach Noor Masaidirwan Md Saini shared the same sentiments.

“It was a fair result for us both as the match was 50/50,” said Noor Masaidirwan.

“We didn’t have a full squad as a lot of players are out with injuries or suspensions,” he added.

It was a goalfest in the other match as QAF FC thrashed Wijaya FC 8-0 at the Berakas Sports Complex in Berakas.

Md Mardi Mirza Abdullah Bujang notched a hat-trick while Md Ardie Arsham Md Salleh found the back of the net twice.

Sairful Arizal Hj Ishak, Hardi Anak Bujang and Afindi Yati Tuah also got their names on the scoresheet.

The competition will now take a break and the remaining matches will only be contested in September after the festive season.

Indera SC continue to lead the nine-team table on 37 points from 13 matches.

The Royal Brunei Armed Forces are their closest rivals on 31 points but have played a game more.

Najip are in third on 27 points while both the Royal Brunei Police Force Sports Council and Liang Lumut Recreation Club are on 23 points from 16 matches.
