NAJIP FC won their DST Super League match against Kilanas FC 6-2 at the Berakas Sports Complex last night.

Fourth after playing 12 games, Najip FC are now nine points behind league leaders Indera Sports Club - who have 32 points currently.

Speaking with The Brunei Times in an interview after the match, Najip head coach Hj Johari Bungsu talked about how important it is that they keep on winning in order to finish in the top-three.

“Most important for Najip FC right now is to be able to win games back-to-back, week in week out. If we can do that, then we might have chance to finish in the top three,” he said.

“Our finishing tonight was good, but defensively we need to do better, especially in those one-on-one defensive situations.

“That’s how we slipped up and gave away those two goals to Kilanas.

“Also, our defence will have to close down on the attackers much quicker, especially when our opponents are on a run looking to penetrate our defensive line,” Hj Johari concluded.

The goals came early in the game for Najip FC as they scored first in the seventh minute through Mohd Hanif Hadi Hamir’s rebounded shot which caught the goalkeeper off guard.

Najip FC’s Abg Nursillmy Abg Hj Taha scored from a free kick just outside the 18-yard box in the 15th minute by chipping the ball over the opponent’s defensive wall and their goalkeeper.

With momentum on their side, Najip FC quickly scored again through a header by Mohd Aminuddin Zakwan Mohd Tahir after receiving a cross from the left.

After conceding three goals, Kilanas FC finally broke down Najip FC’s defence in the 27th minute through a header by Abg Hazim Abg Hadzman after receiving an early cross into the box.

Kilanas FC tried to get back into the game by scoring five minutes later through a free-kick attempt by Izzul Wazien Osman that dipped under the opponent’s top goal post to make it 3-2.

Ratano Hj Tuah of Najip FC managed to widen their lead in the 37th minute by dribbling past the last two defenders and putting the ball away.

Three minutes before first half ended, Najip FC got another goal through Mohd Azri Zahari’s header from the edge of the box.

The last goal of the game came after a minute of second half when Abg Nursillmy got at the end of a cross from the right and tapped it in for his second goal of the night.

Second place Royal Brunei Armed Forces Sports Council meet seventh place QAF FC at the Berakas Sports Complex at 8.15pm tonight.
