THE Royal Brunei Armed Forces Sports Council (MS ABDB) manager Major Pg Farisan Pg Metassan (pic) believes that this can be finally their year in the DST Super League.
MS ABDB missed out on the title on goal difference to Indera Sports Club (SC) in 2013 and the army men also finished second the following year.
In an interview with The Brunei Times yesterday, MS ABDB manager Pg Farisan said: “There is no reason why we cannot be champions this year.
“We have prepared early (since last year) for this tournament and we also have more training and games exposure prior to the tournament.
“Even during this month of Ramadhan, training is still on as per our schedule, it is just the training time have been changed to before Iftar and after 9pm.”
MS ABDB currently sit third at the 10 team-league table with 15 points, behind second-placed Indera SC on goal difference.
Najip I-Team, who have played all their first round matches sit at the top of the table with 18 points.
Wijaya FC are at fourth with 12 points after six games while Jerudong FC who also have played six games occupy fifth with 10 points.
“We are currently in a very good form, but we have yet to meet Indera SC. If we can beat them, Insyaallah we can be champions.
“We have to maintain our performance for the whole season. I think Jerudong FC look good; they are in a good form, so we will continue work hard in training.”
MS ABDB opened their campaign with a 2-0 win over Tabuan Muda (national Under-23 team) and followed that up with a victory over Kilanas FC with a similar scoreline.
They thrashed Wijaya FC 4-1 in their third match and then defeated league leaders Najip I-Team 3-0 in the following match.
MS ABDB cruised past Royal Brunei Police Forces Sports Council (MS PDB) 4-1 in their fifth match.
“I think our new striker Razimie Ramli has improved a lot this season and I hope he can continue his good form after the long break,” continued the manager.
“We have six players trained with the national team including our captain Ak Mohd Safri Pg Othman and I think they have gained quite an experience from the training and this is very good for us.
“Most of our young players have matured this season and they are now more composed on the field,” added the manager.
Azizi Ali Rahman is the club’s current top scorer with three goals, five behind the DST Super League current top scorer Hardi Bujang of Jerudong FC with eight goals.
Meanwhile, both Razimie and Ak Mohd Safri bagged two and one goal respectively for MS ABDB so far.
The DST Super League will resume on August 2 with three matches.
IKLS FC will go up against Lun Bawang FC at the Tutong Sports Complex, Tabuan Muda will face Wijaya FC at the Berakas Sports Complex, while Indera SC will meet Jerudong FC at the Balapan Track and Field of the Hassanal Bolkiah National Sports Complex in Berakas.
