Friday, December 28, 2012

LIANG Lumut Recreational Club Football Team (LLRC FT) was the only team that boasted a 100 per cent win record following the second week of the DST Super League 2012/2013.

The action packed week kicked off with the Royal Brunei Police Forces Sports Council (MS PDB) managing a 4-4 draw against Majra FC at the Balapan Track and Field at the Hassanal Bolkiah National Sports Complex on Dec 21.

The result was a disappointing one for MS PDB who led 2-0 early in the first half but they can at least take solace in the fact that they did not go home empty handed for the second week straight.

They lost 1-2 in their league opener against Royal Brunei Armed Forces Sports Council (MS ABDB).

The highly anticipated clash between MS ABDB and QAF FC on Dec 22 at the Balapan Track and Field had to be postponed to a later date due to unfavourable weather and field condition.

The downpour did not douse the flame of the league though with a total of 16 goals being scored in the next day's two matches.

Indera SC whipped Wijaya FC 7-3 at the Hassanal Bolkiah National Stadium, while Jerudong FC thrashed Najip FC 6-0 in the later match at the same venue.

The big win for Jerudong saw them leap frog their opponents into second spot on the table with a total of four points.

The final match of the second week saw 10-man LLRC FT fight to a 3-0 win against Kilanas FC on Dec 25.

LLRC FT were put in an unfavourable position in the 18th minute when striker Mohd Shah Hafiz Kifli was thrown out of the match at the Balapan Track and Field after being accused of elbowing a defender.

It, however, proved only to be minor inconvenience as they out-played and out-hustled their opponents in all aspects of the game.

The win saw LLRC FT cement their position at the top of the table followed closely by Jerudong FC.

Indera SC currently sit in third on equal points with Jerudong FC, their position determined by a lower goal difference.

MS PDB will kick off the new year against QAF FC at the Hassanal Bolkiah National Stadium next Friday (Jan 4) at 8.15pm.

Najip FC will hope to record their first win of the tournament against Majra FC next Saturday at the Balapan Track and Field at 8.15pm.

MS ABDB will look to improve on fourth in the standings when they face Wijaya FC at the Balapan Track and Field at 4.15pm for next Sunday.

Jerudong FC will play Kilanas FC later on the same day at the Hassanal Bolkiah National Stadium.

The last match for the third week will feature undefeated LLRC FT as they lace up for Indera SC at the Balapan Track and Field at 8.15pm.

A TEN-MAN Liang Lumut Recreational Club Football Team (LLRC FT) overcame a controversial second-half send-off to secure a 3-0 victory over Kilanas FC in the DST Super League at the Balapan Track and Field at the Hassanal Bolkiah National Sports Complex in Berakas last night.

LLRC FT, already without defender Mohd Hafizan Hasnal and playmaker Amy Amizan Gudang through injuries, looked in for a tough night after striker Mohd Shah Hafiz Kifli was shown a red card just 18 minutes into the second-half. Mohd Shah Hafiz was sent-off after appearing to elbow defender Ak Mohd Tajuddin Pg Sulaiman.

"Mohd Shah Hafiz is not that kind of player, he has never been yellow carded before and he is a very clean player with big potential. I do not want to comment on the red card as I am very happy with three points today," said LLRC FT head-coach Hj Affendi Hj Julaihi in an interview with The Brunei Times after the match.

"It was a great team effort, the players worked together to defend and looking for the second goal to finish the game. The midfield area is still a bit loose and we need to work on that as we will be facing one of the strongest team in the league, Indera SC, next. It is going to be tough, but we are up for the challenge," he added.

However, Kilanas FC failed to make their numerical advantage count after missing out several chances in the second-half.

Mohd Nurhidayatullah Hj Zaini fired a free-kick just wide and Naasiruddeen Abdul Wahab came nearest to score for Kilanas FC when his close range header was brilliantly tipped over the bar by LLRC FT goalkeeper Mohammad Faisal Hashim.

LLRC FT had gone close early in the first-half when Mohammad Amirul Jafrey Norshaney and Safuan Juhar combined to set up Mohammad Shah Hafiz shot that was cleared off the line by Kilanas FC's defender Abdul Qahar Ibrahim.

They finally found the net few minutes later in the 20th minute when LLRC FT's Ak Mohd Azrul Ariffin Pg Matussin slipping the ball to Safuan whose cross to the far post was easily tapped in by Mohd Hakeem Keri.

Second-half saw Kilanas FC struggling to get back on term as LLRC FT, who displayed a determination with an assured passing game, showed why they are now at the top of the table.

Kilanas FC found themselves 2-0 down in the 67th minute when Safuan scored from inside the penalty box latching onto a great pass from Mohammad Amirul Jafrey.

Nur Hazwan Khan Asmah Khan then went on to score the third by beating the offside trap before blasting the ball past the goalkeeper in 84th minute to seal the victory for LLRC FT.

LLRC FT are now sitting at the top of the table with six points. Second-placed Jerudong FC are level on four points with DST FA Cup runners-up Indera SC but ahead on goal difference. Meanwhile Royal Brunei Armed Forces Sports Council sits on the fourth place with three points.

Indera SC Beat Wijaya FC 7-3

Bandar Seri Begawan - Indera SC flexed their muscles with a 7-3 thrashing of Wijaya FC at the Hassanal Bolkiah National Stadium last night.

Wijaya FC took the lead through Abd Hakim bin Mohd Musliano in the 10th minute, before Mohammad Azwan bin Ali Rahman evened things up before the break.

Indera SC's talisman would find the back of the net again in the 49th minute, which triggered an avalanche of goals in the second half

Mohammad Khayrun bin Salleh made it 3-1 in Indera SC's favour on the 56th, before a Hamizan Aziz bin Sulaiman hat-trick and Muhd Nur Ekwan bin Othman's effort put Indera SC out of reach.

Zulkefly bin Duraman and Ak Anaqi Sufi bin Pg Hj Omar Baqi struck for Wijaya FC in the final five minutes of the game, but it mattered little as Indera SC went home with all three points.

However, despite such a large winning margin, Indera SC climbed only to second on four points, behind Jerudong FC only on goal difference after the latter hammered Najip FC, 6-0, in the afternoon kick-off.

Inspired by a Md Abu Bakar bin Mahali hat-trick, Md Esmendy bin Brahim's brace and Md Bazli bin Md Said's goal sealed the rout for Jerudong FC, and a place at the top of the DST Super League table.

Tonight's fixture sees Kilanas FC take on LIM FT, with LLRC FT looking to knock Jerudong FC off their perch. Kick-off is at 8.15pm at the Hassanal Bolkiah National Stadium.

Liang Lumut players doubtful about clash with Kilanas FC

Monday, December 24, 2012

THE Liang Lumut Recreational Club Football Team (LLRC FT) are doubtful about tonight's DST Super League clash with Kilanas FC at the Balapan Track and Field at the Hassanal Bolkiah National Sports Complex due to key players' injuries.

Midfielders Amy Amizan Gudang, Amirul Zafrey Norshaney and defender Hafizan Hasnal might not be lacing up for LLRC FT tonight as they are still recovering from injuries. "Few of our key players are still out injured. We will see how it goes, but these players are less likely to start the game tomorrow. We have been practicing our routine training every day and the players are in good shape," said LLRC FT manager Hj Affendi Hj Julaihi in an interview with The Brunei Times last night.

"However it is going to be a very difficult game as Kilanas FC will look to bounce from their 4-2 defeat to Wijaya FC in their first game and moreover we are without our three key players.

"Any team that made it to the DST Super League is a very good team. I am very sure Kilanas FC will give a good fight in the game tomorrow and for me it is going to be a 50-50 chances," he added.

Kilanas FC's assistant coach, Mohd Radzuan Hj Madali, meanwhile, has warned that they will go out to attack when the two teams go head to head tonight. "We will face them head on. They (LLRC FT) have an impressive attacking front scoring seven goals against Najip FC in their first game. The usual thing that you do is to go defensive against this team. But that is not how we play our game. We will attack them tomorrow from the start and it will be an enjoyable match to watch," said Mohd Radzuan.

LLRC FT defeated Najip FC 7-5 in a 12-goal thriller at the Balapan Track and Field on Dec 16.

"There are no injuries in the team and all the starting eleven will be available tomorrow. The players are ready and we are looking forward to the game," said Mohd Radzuan.

Jerudong FC run riot in 6-0 victory over Najip FC

Monday, December 24, 2012

MOHAMMAD Abu Bakar Mahari hit a hat-trick and Mohd Esmendy Brahim scored twice as a rampant Jerudong FC demolished Najip FC 6-0 in the DST Super League at the Balapan Track and Field at the Hassanal Bolkiah National Sports Complex yesterday.

Jerudong FC took an early lead with Mohd Abu Bakar Mahari scoring from 20 metres out to beat goalkeeper Mohd Amirul Rashid Mohd Yusuf in the 10th minute.

Jerudong FC's verve and invention overwhelmed Najip FC and Mohd Abu Bakar Mahari doubled his team's lead six minutes later.

Catching the opponent's defence napping, Mohd Abu Bakar did brilliantly to get to a rebound following Mohd Bazli Said's long-range shot in the 16th minute. Mohd Esmendy made it 3-0 in the 36th minute leaving Najip FC with an uphill battle after the break.

With manager Najip Moktal barking instructions from the touchline, Najip FC limited Jerudong FC to three in the first half. However it was only a matter of time before Jerudong FC added to their lead and three minutes after the restart, Mohammad Abu Bakar pounced at the near post to score Jerudong FC's fourth and his third.

Mohd Bazli poured further misery on the Najip FC, making it 5-0 a minute later with a goal engineered by Jerudong captain Mohammad Radzi Tamat.

Exploiting a gaping hole in the opponent's defence, Mohammad Radzi made a run into the penalty area, before he squared the ball to Mohd Bazli to find the back of the net with the easiest of finishes.

Captain Sumardi Aiadin struck the crossbar as Najip FC desperately looked for a route back into the game but, Mohd Esmendy would put the gloss on the win with Jerudong FC's sixth and his second in the game.

Collecting Mohd Bazli's cut- back from the right, the midfielder calmly struck his second goal from the edge of the box as Jerudong FC walk away with three precious points.

"Before the game, I told my players that this is a must win game following the 2-2 draw with Majra FC in our first game last Sunday. It is a three precious points for us. We cannot drop more points in the game as other teams are winning," said Jerudong FC manager, Hj Jalaluddin Hj Ghazali.

"I am very happy with the three points, even though we did not perform at our best today. It has been raining for the past few days and the pitch is not at its best condition. It was slippery and wet and it affects the flow of the game."

"However, credit to my boys, they still managed to score six goals today. I think our captain Radzi Tamat and midfielder Hanafizul Helmi Hanafiah were fantastic today. They controlled the game and created a lot of chances in the game," he added.

Meanwhile, Najip FC manager, Najip bemoaned the state of pitch after the defeat.

"I think the pitch is wet and it affects the movement of the ball. We have to resort to playing a long ball which was very difficult since we played with only one striker upfront after our key striker Huzaimi Hj Awg Tengah out with fever," said the manager.

The latter match at the Hassanal Bolkiah National Stadium in Berakas saw Indera SC thrash Wijaya FC 7-3.

Underdogs Najip FC ready to pounce on Jerudong FC

Ashyiq Masri
Sunday, December 23, 2012

NAJIP FC are raring to face Jerudong FC in the DST Super League at the Balapan Track and Field at the Hassanal Bolkiah National Sports Complex in Berakas this afternoon.

Despite being labelled the underdogs, Najip FC manager Mohd Najip Moktal said that his team are looking to come away with maximum pooints from the match to improve on their overall rankings.

"After the careless loss we experienced last week in our match against LLRC FT, we need to win all three points in order to place better in the tournament and we will try to do so in our match (today)." he told The Brunei Times last night.

The manager's optimistic ambitions did not blind him however of Jerudong FC's prowess on the field.

"I have seen how they play and their superior field experience compared to us in terms of competitive play will serve them well." said Mohd Najip Moktal.

He added that despite alot of his team's best players falling ill, Najip FC are ready to move up the tournament ladder.

Jerudong FC coach Ali Rashid, on the other hand, is confident that their victory is in the bag.

"I think we can win and play better than our previous performance against Majra FC." he said.

"We understand that they (Najip FC) are also a team to be reckoned with, based on the information gathered from our old players, but I believe we can overcome them." he said.

Jerudong FC currently sit on fifth in the table with one point while Najip FC are ninth on zero points.

Asked if this impacted his team in any way, coach Ali Rashid replied that it was incentive for the team to do better.

"It motivates us, Najip FC are good but we have better knowledge and experience on the field and we are going to prove that in our match."

MS PDB, Majra FC Draw 4-4 In DST Super League

Bandar Seri Begawan - An eight-goal thriller at the Hassanal Bolkiah National Stadium ended with no winner last night, as MS PDB and Majra FC shared the spoils with a 4-4 draw in the second week of the DST Super League.

P5359 Md Saiful Rizal Hj Awang opened the game up with his fourth minute goal, and MS PDB looked to be in cruise control when PC4828 Jasriman Hj Johari netted their second with a quarter of the game played.
However, Majra FC refused to throw the towel in, and Mohd Azri bin Zahari came up with Majra FC's response in the 39th minute.

Teammate Mohd Azwan bin Hassan provided his manager with the perfect tonic as Majra FC drew level just before the break.

Mohd Abdul Azim bin Said handed Majra FC the lead for the first time in the game and looked to have earned his side the three points after scoring in the 80th minute but in the blink of an eye, it was 4-4.
Cpl 4346 Rosmini Hj Abd Kahar drew MS PDB level in the 86th minute before he and Mohd Azri bin Zahari exchanged goals just a minute later to seal their braces to draw the curtains on a pulsating game for the neutrals.

The result leaves both teams without a win after two games and that means LLRC FT are still sitting pretty at the top of the league after their 7-5 defeat of Najip FC last week.

The DST Super League action continues tonight, with a mouth-watering clash between two of the league's finest in QAF FC and MS ABDB. Kick-off is at 8pm at the Hassanal Bolkiah National Stadium.

MS ABDB eye maximum points from QAF FC clash

BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN
Saturday, December 22, 2012

THERE will be no letting up from the Royal Brunei Armed Forces Sports Council (MS ABDB) when they take on QAF FC in the DST Super League at the Balapan Track and Field at the Hassanal Bolkiah National Sports Complex in Berakas tonight.

MS ABDB assistant manager Edham Harlip said the team will only be satisfied if they take home all three points from the match.

"A win against QAF FC will help lift the team's spirit. It will also help boost the players' confidence to win the DST Super League in its first season. We need to keep on winning if we want to win the league so tonight's game against QAF FC is very important," he told The Brunei Times last night.

Despite his ambitions, the assistant manager warned that QAF FC is not a team to be taken lightly.

"QAF FC are not a team that we can look down upon. They are one of the strongest team in Brunei. So we need to be at our best when we play them tonight," said Edham Harlip.

He added that MS ABDB might be welcoming back the services of captain Affendy Hj Akup who is recovering from a groin injury.

"We played without our captain Affendy in our previous game against Royal Brunei Police Forces Sports Council (MS PDB). We won the game, but we were a bit shaky on defence. He is recovering, we will see how it goes tomorrow."

MS ABDB edged MS PDB 2-1 in the league opener at the Hassanal Bolkiah National Stadium in Berakas on December 15.

Budiman Jumat scored a brace for MS ABDB.

QAF FC manager Rahim Daud, meanwhile, is hoping to get his team back to winning ways after being held 2-2 by Indera SC at the Balapan Track and Field at the Hassanal Bolkiah National Sports Complex in Berakas last Sunday.

Both Petrus Jumat and Adie Arsham Muhammad Salleh found the net for QAF FC.

"We know that MS ABDB are the favourites to win the game tomorrow. But anything can happen in football and I am hoping that we will be able to challenge and win," he said.

"It is going to be tough. Our first match was against the runner up of the DST FA Cup, Indera SC, and now we will face the champions. We will see (how it goes) tomorrow." he said.

MS PDB and Majra FC forced to share the spoils

ROSMINI Hj Abdul Kahar scored twice to help Royal Brunei Police Forces Sports Council (MS PDB) recover from two goals down to share the spoils in a 4-4 draw against Majra FC in the DST Super League last night at the Balapan Track and Field at the Hassanal Bolkiah National Sports Complex.

Despite coming away with a point for their efforts, MS PDB coach was not satisfied with the performance as they were obviously the better team early in the game, jumping out to a 2-0 lead in the first half.

"It was quite disappointing. We could have finished the game early. We were 2-0 up early in the first-half and I think the players were a bit complacent," said Sahrin Hj Mohammad Jaya.

"The midfielders did not pressure the opponents enough in the game and they were too relaxed," added the coach.

"We dropped points again tonight and it is very disappointing. But it is too early to say that we are out of the challenge for the title this year.

"We just need to move on and improve on our result in the next game," he added.

MS PDB went ahead as early as the 4th minute when Md Azary Saiful Rizal Hj Awang headed in a Md Syarafuddin Hamdi Hj Talip cross.

Jasriman Hj Johari would double MS PDB's lead in the 21st minute, scoring from just outside the penalty box.

The game looked lost for Majra FC but they would respond, pulling one goal back in the 39th minute after Azri Zahari took advantage of poor communication between two MS PDB centre backs before blasting the ball into the bottom corner.

They would equalise within the next four minutes, Mohd Azwan Hassan the quickest to the ball during a scramble in the penalty box.

Majra FC would finally take the lead through Abdul Azim Said who found the back of the net in the 80th minute.

Majra FC looked to have secured all three points when Azri added another goal to his name just two minutes later.

But Rosmini would put on a heroic effort to score two goals in just as many minutes in the dying moments of the game.

He restored hope to MS PDB when he scored a spectacular free-kick in the 86th minute.

He was on target again a minute later with a stunning 20-metre strike that gave the Majra FC goalkeeper no chance.

The draw sees MS PDB now sitting in eighth position in the table with just a point to their name. Majra FC are fourth with 2 points.

Thursday, December 20, 2012

THE DST Super League 2012/2013 promises to deliver more heart stopping football action after a first week filled with thrilling goals and exhilarating games.

The league kicked off with The Royal Brunei Armed Forces Sports Council (MS ABDB) squad edging out a 2-1 win over the Royal Brunei Police Forces Sports Council (MS PDB) on Dec 14.

Tired from their win in the DST FA Cup final on Dec 10, the armymen had to rely on their fitness and strength to seal the game at the Hassanal Bolkiah National Stadium in Berakas.

Majra FC had to settle for a 2-2 draw against Jerudong FC on Dec 15 at the Balapan Track and Field at the Hassanal Bolkiah National Sports Complex in Berakas.

Jerudong FC manager Hj Jalaluddin Hj Ghazali, in an interview after the match, said that he was not happy with the results as a lost in focus by their defenders cost them the win.

Majra FC, meanwhile, could have easily found themselves on the losing end but strikers Dannie Hendra Mohd Idris and Faizal Mohammad made sure they shared the spoils through timely equalisers.

Indera Sports Club and QAF FC also found themselves splitting points following a 2-2 draw at the Balapan Track and Field on Dec 17.

QAF FC looked destined to leave the match with maximum points but Indera's Mohammad Aqmal Hakeem Abdul Hamid emerged the hero of the night with an equaliser in the 94th minute.

The floodgates opened later in the night at the same venue wih Liang Lumut Recreation Club Football Team (LLRC FT) taking down Najip FC 7-5, the goal fest ensuring that they occupy the top of the table.

Right on LLRC FT's heels are Wijaya FC who shot down Kilanas FC 4-2 on Dec 18 at the Hassanal Bolkiah National Stadium.

At the moment, LLRC FT, Wijaya FC and MS ABDB share the top three spots of the table on equal points, with the rankings based only on goal difference.

A shake up, however, looks to be in order as the competition moves into its second week.

Majra United will face MS PDB at the Hassanal Bolkiah National Stadium on Friday night.

MS ABDB will then take on local powerhouse QAF FC the next day at the Balapan Track and Field.

Sunday will feature two matches, Najip FC seeking their first win against Jerudong FC at the Balapan Track and Field at 4.15 pm.

Wijaya FC will look to start a winning streak when they face Indera Sports Club at the Hassanal Bolkiah National Stadium at 8.15 pm.

The last match for the second weekwill be held on Dec 24 (Monday) with current league leaders LLRC FT taking on Kilanas FC at 8.15 pm.
