Tempers flare as Harimau Muda and DPMM share spoils

The beautiful game played out to some 1400 spectators present at the Jalan Besar Stadium was marred by some dramatic scenes on the touchline and DPMM saw head coach Vjeran Simunic as well as goalkeeping coach Haji Zainol Ariffin being sent to the stands for two separate incidents involving the fourth official.

Rodrigo Radhl drew first blood just before the hour after sneaking into the 18 yard area and earned the distinction of being the first player in the league to get a goal against Izham Tarmizi, who had gone 328 minutes without conceding in the league – an impressive feat for a young goalkeeper.

On the other end of the pitch, Wardun Yusof played a huge part in the equalizer by Gary Robbat nine minutes on when he allowed Robbat’s shot to slip past him and into goal.

In a game largely dominated by Harimau Muda, they poured forward in search of the winner to no avail after grabbing the equalizer. D Saarvindran, who was given a rare start, rocked the upright with a decent shot towards the end and Ahmad Hazwan Bakri missed the target after being played through by Wan Zack Haikal.  The Malaysians even had a legitimate call for a penalty waved away by Abdul Malik when Gary Robbat was tripped inside the penalty area. DPMM had no answer to its opponent’s threat down the flanks and were made to defend in numbers for the last 15 minutes of the game.

Ong Kim Swee's boys sat down on the artificial turf of the Jalan Besar Stadium, with their heads sunk in disappointment after the final whistl, despite maintaining that unbeaten record in the Great Eastern Yeo’s S-League from the night’s 1-1 draw against fellow unbeaten side DPMM from Brunei.
Ong was clearly unhappy about how his counterpart tried making a meal out of the slightest issue but kept his cool and ensured that he did not suffer the same fate.

“I am very proud of my team. I am also very happy with the performance but not the result.”

“I expected this, and I told the players that there will be a lot of contact and aggressiveness and we have to control our heads. You look at the game, all 22 players on the pitch are playing a great game of football but the coach is provoking the players? Why is he provoking everyone on the pitch? We want to play a fair and entertaining game.”

“If we lose to a better strategy on the pitch and we lose the game as a result of tat, I am okay with it because it can only show that my strategy is not right.”

“I am teaching a group of players under the age of 23 to play good and fair football, but the seniors are not showing good example and it is not good for the league” Ong told members of the media.

Simunic was more than happy with the point earned, and said that he has no issues at all with his Malaysian counterpart. He apologized after the game at the press conference.

“Sorry if I’ve offended anybody. I am cold now” Simunic said

“I just felt the need to push my team and I respect Harimau Muda very much. They play good football”

“When I see brutal fouls, I react to certain decisions, and maybe that’s my fault. But I do not have any issues with the Malaysian coach.”

MS ABDB Management vs JERUDONG FC Management

Friendly Match - 26 Mac 2012 - 2030hrs - Mini Stadium Berakas

GAME 1 - MS ABDB Management (2) vs JERUDONG FC Management (1)

Isa guns down Indera SC

AN ISA Hj Bahar brace helped the Royal Brunei Armed Forces Sports Council (MS ABDB) to an easy 3-1 win over Indera Sports Club in last night's DST National Football League Group C action.

Opening the scoring in the 11th minute after beating Indera goalkeeper Ak Omar Nur Aqammadin Pg Hj Sallehudin in a one-on-one situation, he netted his second in the 77th minute after a through ball had sliced the Indera defence wide open.

Substitute Mohamad Zairol Kamat received the pass from midfield and a helpless Ak Omar Nur Aqammadin facing a two-on-one. Mohamad Zairol squared the ball to Isa, who found the back of the net despite a last ditch dive by Ak Omar Nur Aqammadin.

By then it was already 2-1, a Md Azwan Ali Rahman strike in the 67th minute boosting Indera's confidence but not doing enough for them to claw their way back against a fitter and faster MS ABDB side at the Balapan Track & Field, Hassanal Bolkiah National Sports Complex in Berakas.

Mohamed Amir Ajmal Mohamed Tahir made it 2-0 nine minutes after the break when he powerfully headed home a pin-point cross from Zool Hilmi Hj Abd Razak, though Indera's defence really should have done better marking Zool Hilmi and challenging Mohamed Amir Ajmal inside the box.

Putting out a fresh-faced team seven of the first 11 were Under-23 Indera found it hard to break down a well-organised MS ABDB defence.

MS ABDB's manager Major Suhaimi Jamali felt his team deserved to win last night and praised his men for their hard work.

Meanwhile, Adi Said was on the scoresheet as Majra FC started their league campaign on the right note after beating Menglait FC at the Stadium Kebajikan Berakas Sports Complex yesterday.

Adi opened the scoring in the 41st minute when he latched on to a ball from the corner kick.

A tactical change in the second half for Menglait proved to work as they equalised in the 58th minute to level the score to 1-1.

Adi limped out of the game in the second half after a strong challenged by a defender.

Majra FC continued to press heavily on the opposition defence in the dying minute of the second half and their effort was finally paid off in the 89th minute when Zimi Hj Bakirs cross was calmly tapped in by Ahmad Hafiz Said, the elder brother of Adi, to give Majra FC their first win of the season

Majra FC assistant coach Hj Mahadi Hj Md Zain was happy with his boys' performance but said that they need to improve on their stamina and fitness.

In other matches, a brace from Idris Lupat helped Lun Bawang defeated Besa FC 2-1 at the Balapan Track and Field in Berakas.

Jerudong FC handed Group B basement dwellers Seri Bolkiah 1 an 8-0 thrashing thanks to a Md Enddy Soehardy Awg Sapar hat-trick and braces by Md Asnawi Syazni Abd Aziz and Md Bazli Md Said. Md Shah Johan Hj Shari scored for Seri Bolkiah I.The Brunei Times
