PERKASA FC were dumped out of Brunei FA Cup after losing 3-1 to
non-league Sporting FT at the Balapan Track and Field in Berakas
yesterday.
Sporting FT headed into the match as underdogs, while Premier League sides Perkasa FC went into the game with good form that earned them a spot in the Brunei Premier League next season.
Mohd Hasmee Abd Salam opened the scoring early in the 15th minute for Sporting FT before Saifuni Sawal made it 1-1 in the 37th minute of the first half.
Perkasa FC were lacking in creativity in the middle of the park, although midfielder Abd Taib Hj Jais made a number of dangerous runs a few minutes after Saifuni's equaliser.
Sporting FT on the other hand were able to switch the ball from either flank with ease, causing problems to Perkasa FC's back line. Sporting FT distribution in midfield was also exemplary, led by their captain Hardiman Ramlee.
Sporting FT regained their lead when captain Hardiman calm finish find the back of the net in the 68th minute, a goal which was the result of a mistake made by Perkasa FC's defence.
Perkasa FC demonstrated a lack of communication among their players, who played without a sense of urgency. They were also guilty of not putting enough players behind the ball in search of a goal.
Sporting FT went on to score another goal a minute later from the penalty spot after Mohd Hasmee sent the goalkeeper Ali Omar Hj Sulong to the wrong direction.
Sporting FT manager Abd Salam Abd Hadum was satisfied with the performances of his players.
"It was a 50-50 game that could have gone either way and of course Perkasa FC are the more experienced team here. But my players played very well tonight and they converted the chances well in the game," he said.
"This is a very new team. And this is our first time participating in the national football tournament. We planned to participate in the national football league next season. Maybe we can start with the district league first, but we will see how it goes," added the manager.
