ROYAL Brunei Armed Forces (MS ABDB) secured the final berth of the Brunei Games football competition after defeating Brunei-Muara 2-1 at the Berakas Sports Complex in Berakas last night.

The Armymen started the game brightly, scoring their first goal in the 24th minute.

Brunei-Muara's defence failed to close in on MS ABDB's Abdul Azizi Ali Rahman within their box and were made to pay dearly when his right-footed shot curled beyond goalkeeper Norsahrul Hj Ibrahim.

Unable to get their passing game going, Brunei-Muara gave up the ball far too easily and lacked the pace needed to trouble MS ABDB's defenders.

MS ABDB looked hungrier for the ball and were rewarded in the 39th minute when Mohd Nur Ikhmal Awang Damit beat the offside trap and calmly slotted the ball past the goalkeeper.

Sensing the urgency, Brunei-Muara turned things around by dominating the midfield and piled the pressure on their opponents to finally getting a breakthrough. Captain Mohd Ariffin Hj Sulaiman went on to convert the penalty for the Brunei-Muara to make it 2-1 in the 63rd minute.

"It was good game. One of the challenging games in the Brunei Games for us. We controlled the game very well in the first half. But in the second half, we saw the Brunei-Muara team pressing the ball very well in our own half," said the MS ABDB manager Maj Azaman Hj Hussin.

"We put three midfielders in the second half to add more strength in the midfield area and we managed to hold on to the 2-1 lead until the final whistle.

"We will either face the Royal Brunei Police Forces Sports Council (MS PDB) or Belait in the final. We defeated the MS PDB in the final of the previous edition of Brunei Games last two years. We are looking forward to face any team in the final and play good football," he added.

MS PDB will go up against the Belait in the other semi-finals today at the Berakas Sports Complex at 8pm.
