Defeat fails to hamper Indera SC’s title celebration

|     Fadhil Yunos     |

MS ABDB may have inflicted Indera SC’s first defeat of the season, but that failed to spoil the latter’s DST Super League title celebrations.

Indera SC had wrapped up the title in emphatic fashion after dismantling QAF FC in the recent title-clinching game.

Indera SC head coach Hj Omar Hj Jamil acknowledged the defeat as a valuable lesson.
“Hopefully, we can start the 2015 season better than how we fared tonight,” Hj Omar said.
Throughout the match, the team struggled to maintain their unbeaten record, with coach admitting they had immensely missed the services of captain Sahrin bin Momin.

MS ABDB went ahead through Suhaimi bin Hj Md Yussof in the 19th minute before Abd Azizi bin Ali Rahman doubled the lead in the 46th minute.

Indera SC’s Reduan bin Hj Petara reduced the arrears in the 49th minute.

The congested Indera defence was taken by surprise when a feigned cross from a set- piece ended in a short pass for a teammate but it materialised to a clearance in the end, which invited attack in the other end.

Present to award medals and the trophies to the champions was Awang Latif bin Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Setia Dato Paduka Haji Mohd Yusof, a member of the DST Board of Directors.

INDERA Sports Club (SC) were officially crowned champions of the 2014 DST Super League at the Hassanal Bolkiah National Stadium in Berakas last night.

The two-time champions lost 2-1 to Royal Brunei Armed Forces Sports Council (MS ABDB) in the final day of the tournament, leaving their coach Hj Omar Hj Jamil with mixed emotions.

“I am very happy that we won the title again this year and I am very proud of the players. We have created history tonight by winning the tournament two years in a row,” said Hj Jamil in an interview with The Brunei Times.

“But we lost tonight and we failed to maintain our unbeaten record in the league. We were very close to achieving that. This is a lesson for the players to not be complacent in the future,” he said.

Indera finished the nine-team league with 43 points ahead of MS ABDB with 37 points. Najip FC is third with 27 points.

Indera won 14 games, lost one and drew one and they have scored 51 goals and only let in 14 throughout the campaign.

MS ABDB was the first to create a goal scoring chance when Budiman Jumat’s strike from 20 metres out went straight into the hands of goalkeeper Mohd Fakrul Zulhazmi Yussof.

Defender Suhaimi Hj Mohd Yussof would put MS ABDB in front when he drove a low shot from the edge of the penalty box into the back of the net in the 18th minute.

Mohd Azizi Ali Rahman came close to doubling MS ABDB’s lead when he was set free by Budiman but Reduan Hj Petara would come to the rescue with a timely sliding tackle.

Mohd Azizi would not be denied as the second half kicked off, sending his attempt past Mohd Fakrul in the opening minute.

Indera responded almost immediately when Reduan Hj Petara volleyed home a poor clearance by the MS ABDB defence, following a cross from the right by Asri Hj Aspar.

Indera continued to press for an equaliser but MS ABDB would hold on to their lead until the final whistle.
Present to award the championship trophy and the prizes to the winners was member of the DST Board of Directors, Latif Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Setia Dato Paduka Hj Mohd Yussof.

MS ABDB won the “fair play” award in the tournament and their midfielder Mohammad Mazazizi Mazlan received the “best player” award.

Mohd Zulkhairy Razali from Indera won the “top scorer” award with 16 goals.

Indera SC benam Najip

Indera SC just one game away

DST Super League champions Indera Sports Club (SC) are only one match away from completing their unbeaten record this season after thrashing Najip FC 5-1 last night.

Indera, who defended their title by beating QAF FC 7-1 last Monday, will face fierce rivals Royal Brunei Armed Forces Sports Council in their last game on Saturday – and their manager knows that history beckons if they can earn at least a point.

“We already secured the league title and at the same time defended the title, but for us there is still one more thing to achieve - which is to go unbeaten throughout the tournament,” said Indera head coach Hj Omar Hj Jamil in an interview with The Brunei Times after the match.

“We will face our traditional enemy MS ABDB (Royal Brunei Armed Forces Sports Council in our final match next week (Saturday),”

“It is going to be tough as they have a number of good players, but of course we are going for a win… We must not lose,” he stressed.

Last night’s win at the Hassanal Bolkiah National Stadium in Berakas put Indera – who led 4-0 at the break – on 43 points.

MS ABDB are second with 34 while Najip are still third with 27.

Asri Hj Aspar scored a brace for Indera while Sam Frank, Mohd Khairul Anuar Abdul Rahim and Mohammad Hamizan Abdul Aziz Sulaiman all found the net.

“Everyone worked very hard tonight and I think Mohd Nurikhwan Othman was wonderful in the midfield with his good control and creativity,” continued Hj Omar.

“He was our best player tonight.

“We played very slow tempo football in the first half but my players took our chances very well and we led comfortably in the first-half,” he added.

Mohd Asri opened the scoring early in the third minute before Mohammad Hamizan’s brilliant effort from outside the penalty box double Indera’s lead in the 15th minutes.

Abdul Azim Abdul Rahman should have pull one back for Najip but his shot from the edge of the penalty box went straight into the hands of Indera goalkeeper Mohd Norul Zulhilmi Mustapa.

Mohd Khairul Anuar scored Indera’s third at the half-hour mark before Ford made it 4-0 just before the half-time whistle by perfectly latching onto Mohd Nurikhwan's through ball before dribbling past goalkeeper Abdul Hafiz Abdul Rahim and slamming the ball into the net.

Indera continued to control the game in the second half with their short passes and they almost added to their lead when Mohd Nurikhwan picked Mohd Asri out at the far post, but the latter fired his shot wide.

Najip managed to find the net when Abang Norsilmy Abang Hj Taha headed home Noor Raimi Karim’s cross from the right following a swift counter attack in the 76th minute, but Mohd Asri would score Indera’s fifth just seven minutes later.

MS ABDB naib juara Liga Super

BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN, 4 Sept – MS ABDB mengesahkan gelaran naib juara menjadi miliknya apabila memusnahkan harapan pesaing terdekat Najip FC dengan mengalahkannya 3-0, semalam.

 http://mediapermata.brunei-online.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/09/PAGE20-FC_050910372487.jpg

– Hasrulraizan

Indera SC juara Liga Super

Oleh Hasrulraizan

BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN, 3 Sept.

 http://mediapermata.brunei-online.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/09/PAGE20-FC_0409023243710.jpg

Armymen claim second

ROYAL Brunei Armed Forces Sports Council (MS ABDB) defeated Najip FC 3-0 last night to secure second place in the 2014 DST Super League.

Affendy Hj Akup, Ak Mohd Safri Pg Othman and Abdul Azizi Ali Rahman all found the net in the victory at the Balapan Track and Field of the Hassanal Bolkiah National Sports Complex in Berakas.

The win puts MS ABDB on 34 points behind champions Indera Sports Club (SC) on 40 points.
Najip remain third with 27 points.

Indera SC successfully defended their title after thrashing QAF FC 7-1 on Monday and they will face MS ABDB in their final match on September 13.

“I am very happy that we managed to finish second this year, we might not win the league but we still maintained our reputation as one of the best football teams in Brunei,” said MS ABDB interim manager Major (A) Pg Mohd Farisan Pg Hj Metassan in an interview with The Brunei Times after the match.

“We knew that it was impossible for us to win the league after Indera won the game yesterday (Monday) so I told the players to use this game as preparation for our next tournament, the DST FA Cup,” he said.

The DST FA Cup, which is in its second edition this year is slated to take place at the end of this month.

“We controlled the game tonight and I think we had 70 per cent ball possession throughout. We were dominating the midfield and our defence was very good,” said the interim manager.

“Najip are a very good team but we can see in the game that our fitness was slightly better than them and in the second half we totally outplayed them.

“I think captain Ak Mohd Safri played very well tonight, he made a lot of contribution in the game including the goal, he is our man of the match,” he added.

MS ABDB was in control of the game from kickoff and they got in front in the 45th minute through defender Affendy.

The armymen were awarded a penalty when Mohd Hanafizal Helman Hanafiah blocked the shot from inside the penalty box with his arm.

Abdul Azizi stepped up to take the penalty but his shot crashed into the bar and Affendy was the first to get onto the rebound, heading the ball past goalkeeper Ron Junior Philip.

MS ABDB continued to dominate the game and eventually got their second goal in the 68th minute when Ak Mohd Safri headed home a Mohd Khairuddin Abdul Kadir cross from the right.

Abdul Azizi made it 3-0 just a few minutes from time when he made a beautiful strike from 30 metres out to defeat Ron Junior in goal.

The DST Super League action will continue on Sunday with a match between Najip and Indera SC at the Hassanal Bolkiah National Stadium in Berakas.

Indera SC out to end DST Super League campaign with perfect record

Wednesday, September 3, 2014

INDERA SC are looking to complete their DST Super League campaign with an unbeaten record.

They already wrapped up the title for the second straight year after a 7-1 demolition of QAF FC last night at the Balapan Track and Field of the Hassanal Bolkiah National Sports Complex in Berakas.

Indera have yet to lose a game this season with 13 wins and a draw to their name.

They have two matches remaining. They will play Najip FC on Sunday followed by a meeting against the Royal Brunei Armed Forces Sports Council (MS ABDB) in their final League match next Saturday.

Indera head coach Hj Omar Hj Md Jamil insists that the last two games are as crucial as the others that they have contested throughout the whole season.

“We got two more games left eventhough we are the champions. We will respect those two opponents as we want to finish the season unbeaten,” said Hj Omar in an interview with The Brunei Times after the lopsided victory yesterday.

“We expected to do well this season and hopefully we can keep the record going. We are confident that we can do it,” he added.

The head coach also revealed that they only trained four times during the two-month break before the League resumed.

He was satisfied with the performance especially their execution in the opening half.

“We only trained for four days (Friday – Monday) before the League resumed and we just played with whoever was available tonight (Tuesday night),” said Hj Omar.

“We went all out in the first half but in the second we were just playing our normal passing game,” he added.

“It is important to score in the first 45 minutes. If not, it can be a problem for us in the second half,” concluded Hj Omar.

The competition continues today with Najip going up against MS ABDB in the battle for second place at the Balapan Track and Field.

MS ABDB holds the advantage as they are currently on 31 points while Najip find themselves four points back.

Kick off is at 8.15pm.

INDERA SC successfully defended their DST Super League title with two games left to play after a 7-1 thrashing of QAF FC last night.

The champions remain unbeaten in the competition on 40 points from 13 wins and one draw to their name.

They will play Najip FC on Sunday and the Royal Brunei Armed Forces Sports Council (MS ABDB) next Saturday.

It was all Indera right from kickoff as QAF were struggling to match their speed at the Balapan Track and Field of the Hassanal Bolkiah National Sports Complex in Berakas.

Indera broke the deadlock in the 10th minute after Hamizan Aziz Sulaiman found an unmarked Muhd Nur Ikhwan Othman inside the box.

The latter had his first attempt blocked by a QAF defender but fired the rebound into the top left corner.

The lead was doubled just two minutes later after Abd Khair Hj Basri outpaced the QAF backline to blast the ball into the net.

QAF got back in the game in the 15th minute after Hardi Bujang received a through-ball down the middle to slot the ball past Indera custodian Mohd Fakhrul Zulhazmi Yussof.

They threatened again two minutes later but Reduan Hj Petara made a crucial tackle before Hardi could unleash his shot from inside the box.

Indera got their third of the game in the 23rd minute after a good ball over the top was received by Mohd Khayrun Salleh.

QAF goalkeeper Junaidi Akim came off his line to try and close him down but the latter rounded him to put the ball into the empty net.

Indera required an acrobatic save by Mohd Fakhrul to prevent Mohd Hardyman Abdul Lamit from scoring from 25 yards out in the 29th minute.

Indera scored immediately on the other end after Junaidi raced off his line to clear the goalkick only to miss his target, passing it to Hamizan Aziz, who would dribble the ball into an empty net.

Hazmizan struck again five minutes later for his second goal of the game, bringing the scoreline to 5-1.

Defender Reduan played striker in the 41st minute as he outpaced the QAF backline to bulge the net from the edge of the box to carry a 6-1 advantage into halftime.

Indera were more laid back after the interval but still got plenty of chances.

The scoreline could have been larger had it not been for Junaidi producing some good saves in between the QAF sticks.

QAF could have scored another in the 71st minute after Mohd Adie Arsham Mohd Saleh headed Hardi’s cross from the right.

However, Mohd Fakhrul did enough to see the ball bounce off the crossbar.

Indera almost added to their tally two minutes later but Md Khairul Anwar Abd Rahim saw his freekick from just outside the box denied by the woodwork.

Hamizan Aziz would score his hat-trick after toying with QAF’s defence before firing home from inside the box for in the 90th minute.
