Not two far — MS PDB mount gallant fightback for draw
Fadhil Yunus
MS PDB staged a second half comeback after recovering from two goals down during the 2-2 draw against Tabuan Muda ‘A’ in a thrilling encounter in the Brunei DST Super League at the Berakas Sports Complex last night.
Abd Hariz bin Herman and Abd Mateen bin Said have provided Tabuan Muda a two-goal lead at the break but an effort five minutes from time denied the youths victory after Abd Azim bin Abd Rashid’s goal has earlier handed MS PDB a reprieve in the 66th minute.
The police personnel preserved their unbeaten record with all their goals coming in the second half this term while Tabuan Muda ‘A’ remained in the hunt for their first league win this season.
Tabuan Muda ‘A’ head coach Takao Fujiwara admitted that the third goal would have killed the tie.
“We should have ended the contest with a third goal. If we had scored the third goal, this game is already crossed off,” said Takao in a post-match interview.
“Once we’ve had too many mistakes, then for sure our opponents had opportunities,” he added.
“It’s not only about protecting the lead and stay at 2-0. We always think about an international match,” said Takao.
The Japanese accepted that competitive games like the league fixtures and more training sessions would only bode well for the future adding that they need more experience.
Meanwhile, Takao’s opposite number MS PDB head coach Staff Sgt Sahrin Mohamad Jaya expected a tough match against a young Tabuan Muda side.
“We don’t think that it is easy to get three points tonight as Tabuan Muda is a future team for the national team,” said Sahrin.
“They (Tabuan Muda ‘A’) have developed from last year and looking at the game it has certainly been the case.”
He revealed that his charges lacked concentration and lost focus in the first half prompting him to instruct his charges to adopt an attacking play during the half-time team talk.

THE Royal Brunei Police Force Sports Council (MS PDB) came from behind to draw 2-2 against Tabuan Muda A in the DST Super League last night.
The policemen faced a two-goal deficit against the national Under-18 team at the interval but regrouped in the second half to score two goals, with the equaliser coming in the 85th minute at the Berakas Sports Complex.
MS PDB were on the defensive for most of the opening half and trailed in the 16th minute when Abd Hariz Herman was first to react to a blocked shot by MS PDB goalkeeper Cpl 4673 Md Khairol Amin Hj Zainuddin.
Tabuan Muda A, who played in the DST Premier League last season, continued to pressure their opponents and Abd Mateen Said doubled their lead in the 33rd minute when he headed home a cross from Md Hanif Aiman Hj Adanan after a good run down the right flank.
But the national juniors dropped their intensity in the second half and failed to finish off several chances - which ultimately cost them the game.
MS PDB grew in confidence after pulling a goal back when APO 7071 Abd Azim Abd Rashid dribbled past two players and beat Ak Yura at his near post in the 66th minute.
The policemen wrestled control of the game for good when they scored five minutes from time.
“We knew it would not be easy to get three points as Tabuan Muda A are the future national team and have developed well from last year,” said MS PDB coach Staff Sgt Sahrin Mohmad Jaya in a press release.
“We weren’t really focused in the first half but we told ourselves we had to attack more in the second half and get some goals,” he added.
His counterpart Takao Fujiwara felt his charges need more games at this level to improve.
“We made too many mistakes and our opponents took their opportunities, so hopefully we learn from this game," he said.
“We also needed a third goal to finish the game off,” concluded the Japanese.
The competition continue today with defending champions MS ABDB (Royal Brunei Armed Forces Sports Council) up against Lun Bawang at the Batu Apoi Sports Complex in Temburong at 3pm.
The other game pits Jerudong FC against Wijaya FC at the Berakas Sports Complex at 8.15pm.

KOTA Ranger moved to the top of the DST Super League after dispatching Menglait FC 6-0 last night.
Former national team and DPMM FC striker Abu Bakar Mahari was on fire with four goals to his name at the Tutong Sports Complex.
Kota Ranger only required two minutes to break the deadlock courtesy of Md Syazwi Awg Mohin before Abu Bakar netted his first from a volley from the edge of the box in the 19th minute.
Kota Ranger tripled their lead five minutes after the interval with Abu Bakar scoring off a cut-back from the right.
He notched a hat-trick in the 69th minute with a chip over Menglait custodian Mohd Alaisa Fadillah Rosli.
Abu Bakar added to his tally in the 83rd minute with a long range strike and Md Fadzil Ismail Hamdani completed the rout six minutes later after dribbling past two players before slotting home.
“My aim this season is to be the league’s top scorer,” said Abu Bakar, who was Kota Ranger’s top scorer last season with six goals, in a press release from NFABD.
“I was the target man tonight (Wednesday night) and my teammates cut a lot of balls back for me, which was the strategy.
“I hope we can win the league this season, but I know there will be tough competition from teams like MS ABDB (the Royal Brunei Armed Forces Sports Council), Kasuka and Indera,” he concluded.

MS PDB edge Lun Bawang 2-0 in league opener
Fadhil Yunus
MS PDB left it late to seal a morale-boosting 2-0 victory against Lun Bawang in the Brunei DST Super League at the Berakas Sports Complex last night.
MS PDB’s Hafiz Haji Awang Ahmad’s stunner and a sublime Jasriman bin Haji Johari’s free-kick in the final ten minutes sent all three points to the police personnel.
With the game threatening to end in a stalemate, Lun Bawang’s Delson bin Jumat outmuscled the MS PDB defence but could not quite guide his shot into the bottom corner.
Hafiz’s wonderful effort flew from outside the box and into the back of the net to give the police side a well-deserved lead who have dominated large periods of the second half.
MS PDB’s veteran Jasriman came on a substitute and curled a stunning free-kick leaving the Lun Bawang goalkeeper absolutely no chance.
However, there was drama in the end after a Lun Bawang player’s header crashed against the crossbar before Yunus bin Lupat scuffed his shot wide deep into stoppage time.
MS PDB head coach Staff Sgt Sahrin Mohamad Jaya said that only three points mattered during their opening game of the season.
“We only target three points for our first game in the Brunei DST Super League. We’re not concerned with how many goals we’ve scored as long as we end the match with all three points,” Sahrin told the Sunday Bulletin.
The police personnel boast a new look side following a major overhaul with three to four players retained from the previous season.

MS ABDB win Sumbangsih Cup
Fadhil Yunus
MS ABDB have been crowned Brunei DST Sumbangsih Cup winners for the third time after edging Indera SC 2-1 in an enthralling contest at the Hassanal Bolkiah National Stadium last night.
The double league and cup winners fell behind after Indera SC’s Md Asri bin Haji Aspar opened the scoring in the 19th minute but a brace by Razimie Ramlli in the second half turned the tie on its head.
MS ABDB striker Abdul Azizi bin Ali Rahman narrowly missed the top corner after connecting a good cross while in the opposite end Indera SC Md Ammil Rahman Ramlee fired a decent effort wide in the closing stages of the first half in an opportunity to double his side’s lead.
Razimie showed lethal instincts to pounce his team’s leveller in the 63rd minute before finding the winner in the 88th minute after Md Fadhli bin Haji Awang Salleh’s initial effort rebounded off Indera SC’s shot-stopper Md Ahsanuddin bin Haji Md Dani.
However, Indera SC spurned two gilt-edged opportunities to end the regulation time in a draw after Md Zulkhairy Razali skied his effort wide after being teed up by a team-mate before failing to connect a header in the same spot as injury time loomed.
MS ABDB team manager Major (A) Hasnul Alwe bin Haji Matassan was proud of his charges after defending their Sumbangsih Cup title.
“We are proud to be called as back-to-back winners of the Sumbangsih Cup and for a third time,” he said in an interview with the Bulletin.
It was the first taste of success for Major (A) Hasnul since taking over the reins from former manager Major (A) Razanol Hardi bin Abdul Razak.
The army personnel had the second half planned out with the introduction of similarly good players in the 70th minute to adopt a pressing game taking into the account that the opposition’s stamina may have dropped.
“When we trailed 1-0, my players have been trained to use the right mentality, control and find their rhythm,” said MS ABDB head coach Bintara Haji Mesli bin Haji Dullah.
The guest of honour at the event was Amir bin Pehin Datu Pekerma Bijaya Colonel (Rtd) Dato Paduka Haji Hussin, Assistant General Manager of DST Group IT Services, who presented the prizes.

MS ABDB win DST Charity Shield for third time
The Royal Brunei Armed Forces (MS ABDB) came from behind to win the DST Charity Shield for the third time after beating Indera Sports Club (SC) 2-1 tonight.
A second-half brace from Sld Razimie Ramlli helped the army men turn around a 1-0 half-time deficit at the Hassanal Bolkiah National Stadium in Berakas to get their DST Super League title defense off to the right start.
Indera, who finished as runners-up in the DST Super League last season, were the brighter side in the tournament’s curtain-raiser.
MS ABDB were on the back foot in the opening minutes and Indera got in front after Md Asri Hj Aspar converted a penalty which he earned after being brought down in the box by Sld Mohamad Sani in the 19th minute.
MS ABDB shifted gears in the last 10 minutes of the half and pressed Indera well but were unable to force an equaliser.
The soldiers came out in the second half with renewed purpose and the introduction of Sld Mazazizi Mazlan and L/Cpl Suhaime Hj Md Yussof mid-way through the period gave them a burst of energy.
Sld Razimie equalised for MS ABDB with a glancing header off a corner kick in the 63rd minute, and as Indera tired, Sld Razimie pounced on a blocked shot from teammate Sld Fadhli Hj Awg Salleh to tap home the winning goal in the 87th minute.
Indera had a golden chance to force the game into extra-time when the ball fell to Md Zulkhairy Razali after MS ABDB were unable to clear their lines late in the game, but he lost his composure and blasted the ball wide of an empty goal.
“The spirit in this team to win the DST Super League is now strong,” said MS ABDB coach Sgt Hj Mesli Hj Dullah
“Since I’ve been a coach here, for more than two years…. I hope I have been able to bring this team one step higher.
“We strengthened our midfield in the second half and we controlled space better. We knew that where there were gaps, we had to fill them up.”
The trophy was presented by DST Assistant General Manager of Group IT Services Awang Amir Pehin Datu Pekerma Bijaya Col (Retd) Dato Paduka Hj Hussin.
Also in attendance during the game was Royal Brunei Armed Forces (RBAF) Commander Pehin Datu Pekerma Jaya Major General Dato Paduka Seri Mohd Tawih bin Abdullah.

MS ABDB COME FROM BEHIND TO WIN DST SUMBANGSIH CUP

BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN
THE Royal Brunei Armed Forces Sports Council (MS ABDB) signalled their intent for the new season as they came from behind to beat Indera Sports Club (SC) 2-1 to win the DST Sumbangsih Cup for the third time last night.
A second half brace from Sld Razimie Ramli helped the army men turn around a 1-0 half-time deficit at the Hassanal Bolkiah National Stadium in Berakas to get their DST Super League title defence off to the right start.
Indera, who finished as runners-up in the DST Super League last season, dominated the first half with their brilliant passing game and they got in front after Md Asri Hj Aspar converted a penalty, which he earned after being brought down in the box by Sld Mohamad Sani in the 19th minute.
MS ABDB pressed for an equaliser late in the first-half and they were unlucky not to find the back of the net with several open chances.
The armymen came out in the second half strongly in search of equaliser and coach Sgt Mesli Dullah made a tactical change by bringing on Sld Mazazizi Mazlan and L/Cpl Suhaime Hj Md Yussof to add steel in defence and reinforce the midfield.
The strategy paid off as Sld Razimie equalised for MS ABDB with a glancing header off a corner kick in the 63rd minute, and as Indera tired, Sld Razimie pounced on a blocked shot from teammate Sld Fadhli Hj Awg Salleh to tap home the winning goal in the 87th minute.
Indera had a golden chance to force the game into extra time when the ball fell to Md Zulkhairy Razali after MS ABDB were unable to clear their lines late in the game, but he lost his composure and blasted the ball wide of an empty goal.
