THREE-TIME DST FA Cup champions Royal Brunei Armed Forces Sports Council (MS ABDB) are ready to defend their title when the tournament returns next month.
Organised by the National Football Association of Brunei Darussalam (NFABD), the fourth edition of the tournament has attracted 28 teams this year.
Open to all registered football clubs in the country, the competition will kick-off with the non-league clubs playing first round matches on October 7.
The DST Super League teams will earn automatic qualification in the third round while DST Premier League teams only begin their campaign in the second round.
Defending champions MS ABDB will be looking to win the tournament for the fourth time in a row this year.
“Our target is to retain the title,” said MS ABDB’s manager Major (A) Razanol Hardi Abdul Razak in an interview withThe Brunei Times yesterday.
“We expect the competition to be intense and challenging as it always is in past years, but I am expecting more this year… As usual, top teams like Indera SC, Najip I-Team and Kasuka FC will be the teams to watch out for,” he added.
The army men defeated rivals Indera Sports Club (SC) 3-2 to win the previous edition of the DST FA Cup in December.
Razanol Hardi continued that the team will be relying on their younger players in the early stage of the competition as most of the senior players will be training with the national team for the Asean Football Federation (AFF) Suzuki Cup qualifiers. The qualifiers in Cambodia will be held from Oct 15-21.
