KILANAS FC progressed to the next round of the Brunei FA Cup after defeating Rimba Star Junior on Sunday.

One of the 15 teams making its debut in the tournament, the non-league Rimba Star Junior were beaten 3-0 at the Balapan Track and Field in Berakas with goals scored by Kilanas FC's Mohd Khairul Hj Abdul Halim, Naasiruddeen Abdul Wahab and Izzul Wazien Osman.

With Kilanas FC recently qualified for the Brunei Super League, they were the favourites to progress to the next round of the FA Cup. However, Kilanas FC's assistant coach Mohd Radzuan Hj Madali was full of praise of the non-league team.

"Rimba Stars Junior were impressive. The players are young and they played very well. Their defence were well organised. It took us many tries to break the defence," said Mohd Radzuan.

"We are more experience than them so we managed to control the game. Overall our players have more composure and managed to beat them in the end. Mohd Khairul, Naasiruddeen and goalkeeper Mohd Faisal were outstanding today.

"We will play Sangsura FC next. We need to be at our best as Sangsura FC are strong and well discipline team. It is going to be a great game and we are looking forward to the match," he added.

MOHD Ikhmal Hakim Hj Mohd Yunnos scored a brace as Majra United defeated non-league team Seri Wira FC 4-1 in the Brunei FA Cup at the Belapan Track & Field last night.

It was Seri Wira who scored the first goal of the night but they found themselves a man down after Azman Hj Lamit was shown a red-card in the final minute of first half.

Majra United took full advantage of this by attacking relentlessly which eventually led to their four goals

Former national midfielder Abang Nor Silmy Abang Hj Taha and Shahremy Karim scored the remaining two goals for Majra United.

"It was a good game. Seri Wira FC gave a very good fight tonight. First half was a bit slow, the players were not moving well but they managed to comeback in the second and scored three goals," said Majra United assistant manager Hj Mahadi Hj Md Zain.

"We put midfielder Abang Nor Silmy as a striker in the second half. It changed the flow of the game and Alhamdulilah the strategy paid off.

"Shahremy also performed very well in the game. He scored the equaliser for us and I think he created a lot of chances in the attack tonight," he added.

Poor marking by Majra defenders saw Khairul Huzaiemie Arsat score from outside the penalty box to give Seri Wira FC a 1-0 lead in the 33rd minute.

Majra's Shahremy would score in the dying seconds of the first half with a header off the left corner to make it 1-1 heading into the second.

Majra United were the brighter team after play resumed, with Shahremy wrecking havoc both down the middle and on the right flank, where he was able to send in a few dangerous crosses for the strikers.

Mohd Ikhmal Hakim gave Majra the lead in the 52nd minute and they enjoyed a spell of sustained possession after the goal.

Majra United celebrated their third goal in the 74th minute when Mohd Ikhmal Hakim sent the goalkeeper in the wrong direction before calmly slotting the ball into the back of the net.

Abang Nor Silmy added the fourth three minutes later to seal the Majra United's win.

The other match saw MPKS Matan FC scoring a 1-0 win over Sangsura FC.

Majra FC Fight Back To Beat Seri Wira

Bandar Seri Begawan - Majra FC came back from a goal down to beat 10-man Seri Wira FC 4-1 at the Berakas Sports Complex in the first round of the DST FA Cup last night.

Newcomers Seri Wira shocked the DST League giants Majra United with the opening goal of the game, a long range screamer from Khairul Huzaiemie bin Arsat in the 33rd minute giving the underdogs the lead.

However, Azman bin Hj Lamit let his side down after he received his marching orders on the stroke of half time for a last man challenge. The ensuing free-kick was nothing too troubling but was deflected out for a corner. From the resulting corner, Noor Raimi Shahremy bin Karim rose highest to draw Majra FC level.

Mohd Ikmal Hakim bin Hj Mohd Yunnos put Majra FC ahead after he converted Abang Nor Silmy bin Abang Hj Taha's cross in the 52'd minute. The Majra FC forward doubled his tally 12 minutes later after beating the offside trap, and with his teammate Mohd Azwan bin Hassan screaming for the ball, the forward chose to go it alone, wrong-footing keeper Fahruddin bin Kamis and beating him at his near post.

Former DPMM FC defender, Abang Nor Silmy, put the result beyond doubt after the Seri Wira FC defence were caught napping once more, leaving the defender-cum-striker with the simple task of beating the keeper in a one-on-one situation.

Following the win, Majra FC assistant manager, Hj Mahadi, was relieved to see his side qualify for the next round, having trailed 1-0 just before the break.

"It was a tough game. We were trailing 1-0 and our mentality and mood was not good," remarked the assistant manager.

"Our strikers didn't finish their chances, so I made a change and played Abang (Nor Silmy) as a striker, and the change settled our team," added Hj Mahadi.

"Our opponents were good, and we were lucky they were playing with 10 men," said Hj Mahadi, who nominated midfield playmaker Mohd Ikmal Hakim as the man-of-the-match.

Majra FC were short of a number of key players which they had lost through injury, most notably national player Mohd Azri bin Zahari. "We didn't have our first choice strikers, so we had to play our substitute strikers today, and we were also missing Azri, who has a hamstring injury," explained Hj Mahadi.

Last night's other match saw MPKS Matan FC edge Sangsura FC 1-0 at the Belapan Track and Field Complex, Md Adzrin bin Timbang's solitary effort in the 35th minute was enough to ensure MPKS Matan FC qualified for the next round.
