KOTA Ranger FC took a massive dent to their title aspirations in the DST Super League following a 2-2 draw with Indera SC at the Track and Field of the Hassanal Bolkiah National Sports Complex last night.
There was huge interest after MS ABDB surrendered their top place billing and were stunned to a goalless draw in the uniformed personnel derby against MS PDB and with Kota Ranger’s 3-1 win over Lun Bawang in Temburong.
However, there is a twist to the plot in this sensational Super League storyline as their grasp on top spot slipped with their title rivals also playing on the same night.
Md Faiz Farhan bin Kasmat scored directly from a free kick in the 23rd minute to present his side the lead before Abu Bakar bin Mahari doubled the lead with a ferocious drive.
However, Indera, buoyed by a series of impressive results as of late, were allowed a route back to the game after Md Asri bin Haji Aspar benefited from a good ball into the box before firing home past Kota Ranger goalkeeper Azman Ilham bin Haji Md Noor.
Indera were awarded a penalty which Md Asri duly converted for his side’s second of the game in the 77th minute.
“Our side displayed high spirits and great commitment to get the goals especially when getting a goal is not easy,” said Indera SC head coach Mohd Darus Tanjong in a post-match interview.
“I’m grateful that we managed to draw and a get a point from the game,” he continued.
“I’m not going to talk about luck, there are fortunes, but there is only a small margin between us scoring and not.
“The Kota Ranger’s goalkeeper was quick to read the play,” he said.
Meanwhile, MS ABDB returned to the top of the table following a 5-0 win over Kasuka FC in the other game at the Berakas Sports Complex.
