MS ABDB hand Indera first loss

Saturday, August 22, 2015

The Royal Brunei Armed Forces Sports Council (MS ABDB) remained leaders of the DST Super League after securing a late 2-1 win against Indera SC at the Tutong Sports Complex last night, handing the defending champions their first loss of the season.

A 94th minute goal from L/Cpl Hj Mohd Yusof Hj Md Yassin ensured MS ABDB the three points, and they have a five-point lead over Indera – who remain second with 19 points but with a game in hand.

Pvt Razimie Ramli broke the dead lock in the 35th minute after some shaky defending from Indera before chipping over Indera goalkeeper Abdul Hadi Timbang.

Indera’s 19-year-old Mohammad Asri Hj Aspar equalised at the beginning of the second half from a penalty kick awarded due to a rash challenge by Sgt Mohammad Haizul Metussin, who tripped Indera’s Hamizan Sulaiman inside the box.

Indera defended well towards the end of the second half before conceding in stoppage time when central defender L/Cpl Hj Mohd Yusof connected on a free-kick.

Speaking to The Brunei Times, MS ABDB’s manager Major Pg Muhd Farisan Pg Hj Metassan said the result proved his team’s strength and determination.

“Indera were a tough team to beat tonight. I would say the game was 50-50, but luck was on our side,” he said.

“The most important thing here tonight was to secure the three points.

“We had very intense training prior to this game… Indera are a very strong team as they are the defending champions, but we gave our 100 per cent.

“We changed some tactics prior to this game, and it was a bit of a gamble especially with Indera very strong in the air and in set pieces.

“They got a penalty to equalise, but we managed to fight back with our high spirit and determination.

“I hope NFABD will give five days to a week in between our fixtures so our players can be fit.

“We have three injured players right now and their fitness is key for us to win this title,” he added.

Tonight’s game will see sixth-placed Jerudong FC host eight-placed Royal Brunei Police Force Sports Council (MS PDB) at the Tutong Sports Complex at 8.15pm.

Jerudong have 13 points while MS PDB are on seven.
