JERUDONG FC recorded a rare win in the Brunei DST Super League after edging Wijaya FC 2-1 at the Berakas Sports Complex last night.
Wijaya suffered their first defeat of the season as the Jerudong club dented their hopes of wrestling the crown away from the obvious title contenders in MS ABDB and Indera SC.
Mohd Arif bin Ali Rahman opened the scoring with an exquisite free-kick on the stroke of half time before Agus Haryono drew Wijaya level in the 48th minute.
Mohd Asnawi Syazni bin Abdul Aziz scored the winner for Jerudong in the hour mark.
Jerudong FC team manager Haji Mohd Jalaluddin bin Haji Mohd Ghazali was pleased with his players after getting the better of one of the league’s stronger teams.
“It is every manager’s hope to win a game. Jerudong won tonight and I’m grateful that all players were able to do what they were instructed,” said Jalaluddin in a post-match interview.
“Wijaya are a strong team and if I’m not mistaken they were third last season.”
Jalaluddin hoped that his charges would continue with their hard work in training.
“We play football as a team. Hopefully, we continue to do so,” he added.
Jerudong finished at the bottom of the DST Super League last year with only one win to their name while Wijaya sealed a top three finish.
Elsewhere, first-half strikes from Abdul Azizi Ali Rahman and Budiman Jumat helped reigning holders MS ABDB to a 2-0 win over Lun Bawang at the Batu Apoi Sports Complex in the Temburong District.
