A SPIRITED second half by MS PDB ensured them a place in the second
round of the Brunei FA Cup last night, defeating FC Phosphor 2-0 at the
Balapan Track and Field in Berakas. MS PDB have centreback Md Syarafuddin Hamdi Hj Talip and midfielder Jasriman Hj Johari to thank for the win after they scored scored a goal each to book their team into the second round of the tournament.
"It was not our best performance but we are through to the second round. We need to improve on our attacking. We had a lot of chances in the game but we only managed to convert two tonight," said MS PDB head coach Philip Pasan.
Md Syarafuddin Hamdi opened the scoring via a header in the 18th minute to give MS PDB the lead.
MS PDB started the second half determined to put their opponents away.
Mohd Sharizan Adam came close to doubling their lead in the 50th when he found himself unmarked inside the penalty box before firing his shot wide.
Jasriman would have no such trouble, putting his team up 2-0 in the 75th minute when he stole the ball off a defender outside the box and unleashed a powerful strike past FC Phosphor goalkeeper Romaino Maripa.
"The first 50 minutes was very dull, only in the second-half were they more aggressive going forward. So I asked my players to be more attacking-minded in the second-half and to play more aggressive," said Philip.-
