ROYAL Brunei Police Forces Sports Council (MS PDB) defeated Royal Brunei Armed Forces Sports Council (MS ABDB) 1-0 in the DST Super League at the Balapan Track and Field of the Hassanal Bolkiah National Sports Complex in Berakas last night.

Mohd Syarafuddin Hamdi Hj Talip scored the only goal for MS PDB to keep his team in second in the league.

They currently have 12 points and trail league leaders Najip FC only on goal difference.
Najip FC defeated Majra United 3-1 at the Berakas Sports Complex in last night’s other match

It was a lacklustre performance by both teams in first half with MS ABDB’s Budiman Jumat and Mohd Baharin Hamidon the only players to threaten from outside the box.

The policemen meanwhile defended well and were very cautious in their approach.

MS ABDB striker Mohd Saiful Rizal Hj Awang played as the lone striker up front and lacked support from his team-mates in the attack.

The second-half saw MS ABDB play more aggressively, utilising their wingers at both flanks to send in dangerous crosses into the penalty area.

However it was the policemen who came up with the first real goal scoring chance when Jasriman Hj Johari struck the cross bar on the hour mark.

MS PDB looked to have scored the first goal a minute later but their attempt was disallowed. Khalid Mustapah managed to nudge the ball into the net in a 50-50 challenge with MS ABDB goalkeeper, Mohd Suhandi Hj Awg Mahali, but the goal was ruled out for a foul.

MS ABDB made tactical changes, bringing in Mohd Mazazizi Mazlan for centre midfielder Mohd Amir Ajmal Mohammad but the winger failed to impact the game.

MS PDB found their rhythm and were the better team in the final 15 minutes of the game.

MS PDB finally broke the drought when Mohd Syarafuddin Hamdi’s powerful free-kick from 20 metres squeezed through the legs of MS ABDB’s goalkeeper before slowly rolling into the net.

“We deserved the victory tonight and I think we should be given the goal when Khalid managed to find the net… He got onto the ball first and I think the referee made wrong decisions,” MS PDB coach Shahrin Hj Mohd Jaya told The Brunei Times after the match.

“We played without our key players tonight including captain Rosmini Hj Abdul Kahar… so it was a bit difficult for u.,”

“We defended very well in the game and in the second-half we created a number of chances and we took the chances… it was a great game,” he added.
