Super League defending champions Indera Sports Club edged past Lun
Bawang 2-1 in a very close match at the Balapan Track and Field of the
Hassanal Bolkiah National Sports Complex last night.
The victory means Indera are now just five points behind league leaders Royal Brunei Armed Forces Sports Council (MS ABDB) who have 33 points.
Indera's coach Hj Omar Hj Jamil said that the victory was a very important one for the team following their shocking 2-0 defeat in the first round of the tournament last month.
“It is a very important win for us… It was not an easy game but I am glad that we did not repeat the same result of the first round,” said Hj Omar in an interview with The Brunei Times after the match.
“Lun Bawang have improved so much this year and they got a lot of good young players in the team, so they will only going to get better.
“They played with five midfielders tonight so it was a bit difficult for us to match their strength in the midfield.
“We made some changes in the second-half and I am very happy that we managed to score the second goal,” added the coach.
It was a balanced game from the start with both teams shared equal possession of ball and goal scoring chances. Indera eventually broke the deadlock at the half-hour mark when striker Mohd Hamizan Aziz Sulaiman rose above every one inside the penalty box to head home Ak Mohd Azrul Ariffin Pg Metussin's corner kick from the left.
Midfielder Mohd Nurikhwan Othman had a chance to double Indera's lead when he was given a plenty of space and time to shoot from the edge of the penalty box but his shot went inches wide.
Mohd Nurikhwan was set through inside the penalty box just a minute later but Lun Bawang goalkeeper Azriel Arman bravely came off his line to clear the ball to safety. Lun Bawang striker Amir Bujang made a strong run skipping past Indera defenders but the striker failed to find the target with his weak shot.
Indera went out in the second-half to find the second goal and Mohd Nurikhwan went very close to score when he was picked at right post but his volley hit the side netting.
Lun Bawang striker Amir caused a lot of problem to Indera's defence whenever the ball was on his feet, but he was lacking the support from his team-mates in the attack.
19 year-old Amir eventually found the net in the 59th minute placing the ball into the bottom right corner from outside the penalty box defeating Indera's goalkeeper Mohd Ahsanuddin Hj Mohd Dani.
Petrus Jumat beautiful curling freekick in the 70th minute nearly put the 2014 DST Premier League champions ahead but goalkeeper Mohd Ahsanuddin pulled a finger tip save to deny the midfielder
.
Ak Mohd Haikal Pg Zaidi who came on at the start of the second-half rescued Indera scoring from a tight angle from the left to defeat goalkeeper Azriel in the 79th minute. Meanwhile, Najip I-Team defeated Royal Brunei Police Forces Sport Council (MS PDB) 1-0 at the Tutong Sports Complex in another match yesterday.
