WIJAYA
FC head coach Hj Lukman Hj Adanan was left fuming over the last minute
change of venue of their DST Super League game against the Royal Brunei
Police Force Sports Council (MS PDB) last night.
The game, which ended 2-2, was supposed to be played at the Berakas Sports Complex but was changed to the Tutong Sports Complex.
It is understood the reason for the change was the burst floodlight on one side of the pitch at the Berakas Sports Complex which happened during last Friday’s game between Jerudong FC and IKLS FC – the match which was later cancelled due to the technical glitch in the 31st minute.
Hj Lukman highlighted that there was lack of communication from the National Football Association Brunei Darussalam (NFABD) to the club, and he said he expected a more professional approach to the situation from the governing body.
“We have trained and prepared our players for this match at the Berakas Sports Complex. We did not at all expect to go all the way to Tutong, and when we found out at noon today (Monday), we were very unhappy with the decision,” he told The Brunei Times.
“Our players and the management team work during the day, and this issue affected the momentum of our team.
“NFABD should have informed us earlier, at least 24-48 hours prior to match day, not on the match day itself.
“The floodlight issue has been going on since Friday, and there were two matches (Jerudong FC vs IKLS FC on Friday, and Indera SC vs Kilanas FC on Saturday) postponed.
“We wonder why NFABD does not have a back-up plan?
“We expected NFABD to be more organised in assessing this situation.
“The Balapan Track and Field of the Hassanal Bolkiah National Sports Complex in Berakas is not being used tonight (Monday night), so why can’t we go there instead?,” he asked.
Hj Lukman hopes the current situation can make NFABD consider a better solution if similar problems arise in the future.
“It is a part of the governing body’s responsibility, and we hope they can find a better solution that can help not just us, but any clubs in the future,” he said.
“Anything can happen. Today the floodlight bursts, tomorrow the field gets flooded… There will be more (problems)… Who knows?
“But as long as NFABD can handle these problems, the better it is for everyone,” he noted.
Ak Anaqi Sufi Pg Hj Omar Baki netted a brace for Wijaya in last night’s win, the result which moves them from fifth to fourth in the 10-team table.
Though they now have the same points (21) and goal difference (10 goals) with Tabuan Muda (national Under-23 team), Wijaya have netted 29 goals to Tabuan Muda’s 26.
MS PDB are seventh with 12 points.
The Royal Brunei Armed Forces Sports Council (MS ABDB) still lead the table with 30 points from 11 games, and they currently enjoy a five-point lead over two-time defending champions Indera Sports Club.
Najip I-Team are third with 24 points.
