MS ABDB extend lead

|     Fadhil Yunus     |
MS ABDB extended their lead at the summit of the DST Super League to eight points following a convincing 4-1 victory against Wijaya FC at the Berakas Sports Complex last night.

The constant league forerunners during its formative years were supposed to provide stern opposition but this decade has witnessed a change of tide as MS ABDB will testify.

The army personnel were rampant, decisive and resurgent at most of the departments in the game and this form could push them even further.

Everyone associated with the team will not put off the pedestal yet after this victory and rather they will go each game strength by strength.

Their football was enterprising, their pressing game and interest in the ball were excellent and lastly their staunch defending made it all comfortable at the back.

Abd Azizi bin Ali Rahman opened the scoring in the 22nd minute while Ak Mohd Safri bin Pengiran Haji Othman doubled the advantage only two minutes later.

By the time Razimie bin Ramli led the onslaught with his team’s third, MS ABDB never looked like surrendering yet another victory in the second round opener.

Marhazif Ahad carried slim hopes of a revival through a penalty in the 48th minute but Razimie’s brace restored a three-goal cushion.
On the last quarter of play, MS ABDB tried from distance but the dipping ball did not lower in time to hit the roof of the net.

After successfully rounding the keeper off though in a tight angle, the cutback into the centre was generous enough for the Wijaya defence to start over.

But not all is doom and gloom in the face of adversity for a Wijaya side now slowly plummeting from the title contenders as they will be heartened with the sheer glimpses of brilliance from 20-year-old Ak Mohd Asri bin Pengiran Azahari.

The young prospect Ak Mohd Asri did well to manoeuvre past the rarely tested MS ABDB defence but his effort unfortunately skewed wide off the post which turned out to be the final notable moment of the game.
