Abdul Hakim’s late strike gives Wijaya share of spoils

Sunday, March 16, 2014

WIJAYA FC managed to salvage a point as they held Jerudong FC to a 2-2 draw in the DST Super League last night.

Abdul Hakim Mohd Musliano was the hero for the club, netting both goals in the game at the Balapan Track and Field of the Hassanal Bolkiah National Sports Complex in Berakas.

“I am very happy with the result, but I am not happy with how we performed tonight,” said Wijaya’s manager Ahyana Hj Tali in an interview with The Brunei Times after the match.

“It was very disappointing to see some of our players struggling to perform for a full 90 minutes and their fitness level is low.

“We matched Jerudong well in the first-half, but in the second-half the players were exhausted and we were lucky to get the goal late in the game,” he said.

Abdul Hakim put Wijaya ahead four minutes into the game with a powerful shot from 25 metres out.

Mohd Asnawi Syazni Abdul Idris should have equalised a few minutes later when he was picked out by Mohd Faiz Farhan Kamat at the far corner but the 17-year-old sent his header wide.

Abdul Hakim almost doubled Wijaya's lead seconds later but his weak shot went straight into the hands of Jerudong goalkeeper Abdul Samad Hj Gapor.

Reniel Ruani would equalise in the 16th minute in a swift counter-attack initiated by midfielder Mohd Faizul Ambotang whose long ball perfectly met the latter who made a run into the penalty box.

Reniel dribbled past Wijaya's last man before burying his shot at the bottom left corner.

Reniel turned provider in the final minute in the first-half when his throughball from the midfield found Mohd Faiz Farhan Kamat just outside the penalty box.

The striker would gain control of the ball before slamming it into the back of the net to put Jerudong ahead for the first time.

Jerudong continued their momentum in the second-half controlling the game and creating a lot of chances.

Wijaya's midfielders were struggling to contain Jerudong’s midfield duo of Mohd Faiz Farhan and Mohd Faizul in the middle of the park.

Mohd Faizul should have increased Jerudong's lead on the hour mark when he was set through inside the penalty box, but the midfielder would blast the ball wide.

Jerudong created more chances with Reniel volleying his shot wide and Mohd Radzi Tamat slammed the wood work, but they were stunned in the 90th minute when Abdul Hakim equalised to give his team a share of the spoils..

Jerudong now sit in ninth place with only two points to their name, while Wijaya remain in seventh place with four points.
