AN EQUALISER in the dying seconds of their DST Super League game earned Jerudong FC a 3-3 draw with the Royal Brunei Police Forces Sports Council (MS PDB) last night.

MS PDB looked poised to seal the win after Mohd Saiful Rizal Hj Awang's shot was deflected by a Jerudong defender and rolled past the goal-line in the 90th minute.

However, Jerudong answered back swiftly with their a goal from Mohd Enddy Soehardy Awg Sapar seconds later.

MS PDB are still third with 23 points while Jerudong stay eighth in the ninth-team table.

It was a sluggish start to the match at the Berakas Sports Complex as both teams were having a hard time communicating.

Jerudong came up with the first goal when Mohd Faiz Farhan Kamat received a cross and headed in it in from the far post in the 22nd minute.

Mohd Bazli Mohd Said doubled Jerudong’s lead in the 39th minute after scoring from the edge of the box when his shot was deflected off a MS PDB defender and went over goalkeeper Awg Azlan Shah Hj Putera’s head into the net.

The policemen started the second half more confidently after substitute Rosmini Hj Abd Kahar pulled the deficit back when receiving a well-placed long ball from defence and slotting it in.

Rosmini then equalised in the 88th minute when his free-kick was fumbled by Jerudong goalkeeper Abdul Samad Hj Gapor.

Speaking in an interview with The Brunei Times after the match, Jerudong team manager Hj Jalaludin Hj Ghazali expressed his satisfaction with the outcome but expressed some concerns with their performance.
“Overall, I'm happy with our performance tonight,” he said.

“There were moments when I thought we were going to win tonight, especially after the first half.

“We don't practice enough so that's why we got tired, and that caused us to be careless at the end.

“First half we were in control of the game and, at times, were able to take advantage of their defenders’ miscommunication.

“So it was good, but unfortunately we lost the momentum in second half,” Hj Jalaludin said.

MS PDB head coach Sahrin Mohd Jaya stressed on improving their in-game tactics to avoid any more mishaps.

“We were unstable in the first half and that was because our players weren't concentrating properly and let the opponents work the ball in midfield,” he said.

“It was frustrating to watch.

“But in the second half, we subbed in Rosmini to hold the ball up the field and to make those crucial passes and provide options for his teammates.

“We need to work on our in-game communication and concentration in our next game and hopefully we can produce a good result,” he added.

MS PDB will face off with Najip FC on Sunday at the same venue.

Jerudong face QAF FC at the Balapan Track and Field of the Hassanal Bolkiah National Sports Complex in Berakas on Saturday.

Both matches will start at 8.15pm.
