Royal Brunei Armed Forces Sports Council (MS ABDB) have cut the gap to
DST Super League leaders Indera Sports Club to one point after beating
QAF FC 3-0 at the Balapan Track and Field of the Hassanal Bolkiah
National Sports Complex in Berakas last night. The army men have now earned 31 points while QAF FC remain seventh place with 14 points.
Indera, though, will be able to widen their lead back to four points when they go up against sixth place Wijaya FC at the Balapan Track and Field tonight.
“With regards to Indera, there is a chance for us to catch up to them now - but they have a two-game advantage over us.” MS ABDB manager Major (A) Pg Mohd Mufid Pg Umar Ariffin said in an interview with The Brunei Times after the match
“… we will see what happens in their next few games.
“I’m happy with our performance against QAF FC.
“It seems that our in-game tactics and hard work during practice is starting to come out and show its results on the score board,” he concluded.
MS ABDB’s first goal came from a well-placed shot outside the box by Mohd Khairuddin Abd Kadir in the 11th minute and Abd Azizi Ali Rahman doubled the lead by tapping home the ball after a cross in the 52nd minute.
QAF FC almost broke their deadlock in the 62nd minute when Hardy Anak Bujang created a one-two with a teammate and broke behind the last defender.
Unfortunately, his shot went wide.
Mohd Fadhil Hj Awang Salleh sealed the game for MS ABDB two minutes before the final whistle after running past the last defender and shooing the ball over the goalkeeper.
Tonight’s match between Indera and Wijaya will start at 8.15pm.
