JERUDONG FC displayed a potent second-half attacking performance as
they defeat Royal Brunei Police Forces Sports Council (MS PDB) 2-1 in
the DST Super League at the Balapan Track and Field at the Hassanal
Bolkiah National Sports Complex in Berakas last night.
With the win, Jerudong have finished all their games in the league this season.
They sit in seventh position in the league with 9 points. MS PDB meanwhile, remains fourth with 13 points.
"I am very proud with how my players played in the game tonight. They were very determined and worked well together. It was a very good team performance," said Jerudong manager Hj Jalaluddin Hj Ghazali in an interview with The Brunei Times after the match.
"This is our final game. I look forward to next season. We have good young players in the team. I will most likely to keep these players for next season," he saidd.
MS PDB managed to repel wave after wave of attacks by Jerudong with a disciplined display in the first half.
Jerudong twice penetrated down the right wing and won a number of corners but failed to find the back of the net.
They further picked up the intensity after the break, finally finding a breakthrough in the 58th minute through Asnawi Syazni Abd Aziz who seized possession near the centre of the field before powering into the penalty area where he sent the ball to teammate Abu Bakar Mahari.
The striker cut the ball back to Asnawi Syazni who smashed the ball into the net past goalkeeper Mohd Khairol Amin Hj Zainuddin.
Jerudong took just ten more minutes to make it 2-0.
Dahlan Sapar converted the penalty after referee Endy Vyzunny Hj Zainuddin awarded Jerudong a penalty against MS PDB's Rokiman Kisut for a handball.
Hanafizul Helmi Hanafiah should have made it 3-0 few minutes later when he broke down the left flank and squared the ball for an unmarked Mohd Enddy Soehardy Sapar to volley, but his shot was blocked by an MS PDB defender.
MS PDB tried to retaliate and find their way back into the game but the Jerudong players were quick to close them down on every possession.
They almost pulled one goal back when captain Rosmini Hj Abdul Kahar put in a perfect cross for Jasriman Johari but the midfielder sent a bullet header inches wide.
Jasriman would not squander a second opportunity.
This time he timely tapped home Rosmini's swift cross from the left in the 76th minute to put the scores at 2-1 but Jerudong would respond by tightening their defence to hold on to their one goal lead until the final whistle, ending their campaign with only second win in the season.
