MAJRA FC edged Liang Lumut 1-0 in the DST Super League at the at the Balapan Track and Field of the Hassanal Bolkiah National Complex in Berakas last night.

It was not their best performance in the league but the win put Majra, who notched their fourth win in eight games, at third place in the table with 16 points. However Royal Brunei Police Forces Sports Council (MS PDB) can push them down a place if they win against Jerudong FC at the Balapan Track and Field next Tuesday.

"It was a great game. We were without number of key players in the game. But the players did very well tonight, the only problem were their fitness. I am very pleased with three pints tonight," said Majra FC assistant coach Hj Mahadi Hj Mohd Zain in an interview with The Brunei Times after the match.

"Our target now is to be in the top three. Of course previously we targeted to win the tournament. But we dropped many points with four draws this season. It is very difficult to win the league now. We will play QAF FC in the final match. We hope to get three points from the match as we are aiming for top third finish," he added.

Majra rotated their side for last week's draw against Wijaya FC. But last night it was business as usual. Julremi Hj Zaini, Faizal Mohammad and Captain Shahremy Hj Karim spearheaded the attack. National player midfielder Abang Norsilmy Abang Hj Taha and former DPMM FC defender Yusof Mohd Salleh were the only major absentees.

Both teams started strongly in the first-half but there were no real chances. It was becoming an open, fast-paced game with neither midfield have much control. It was Majra who finally broke the deadlock in the 47th minutes via Mohd Syarafuddin Ahmad.

Majra's Mohd Ikhmal Hakim Hj Mohd Yunos tried to wriggle through on the edge of the LLRC area only to be halted by LLRC defender. The ball ran loose to substitute Mohd Syarafuddin 20 metres out. He took it in his stride, looked up and curled a stunning shot into the top corner two minutes into the second half.

Majra continued to look superior in all areas. LLRC goalkeeper Mohd Fakhrul Amin Sanif had to snaffle Julremi shot around the post a few minutes later and, from the corner, Faizal hooked a shot into the keeper's hands.

But it was never going to be a full procession of Majra chances. LLRC are far too determined for that. Nur Hazwan Khan Asmah Khan was denied twice in a minor goal-mouth scramble.

If anything LLRC were starting to look the stronger side. Safuan Juhar slipped the ball into the path of Mohammad Hakeem Keri just inside the area but his shot went straight into the goalkeeper.

Majra almost extended their lead when Julremi made a great solo effort by dribbling past four LLRC players before blasting his shot wide. But once again LLRC battled back with Captain Hj Bahrin Hj Sahari tested Majra's goalkeeper Mohd Najib Asri with a stinging long-range shot. However it was too late as Majra walked away with three points in the game.

Action continues today with QAF taking on Wijaya at the Balapan Track and Field at 4.15pm.
