A DST Super League match between Majra FC and MS ABDB was abandoned after a Majra player allegedly “knocked out” a referee at the Track and Field Sports Complex last night.
Majra FC, sitting second from bottom in the 10-team league, may face severe punishment following the alleged incident which halted the game after only 59 minutes of play.
MS ABDB was leading 3-0 when a player was apparently impeded in the box. Before the referee could make a decision, the player in question shoved and allegedly punched the referee who fell to the ground.
The incident prompted intervention by a linesman who entered the pitch before the football authorities joined in. The referee who appeared to have lost consciousness had to be carried off on a stretcher.
