NAJIP
FC snatched all three points after a 2-1 victory over QAF FC in the DST
Super League last night at the Berakas Sports Complex.
The victory pushes them up to second place in the 10-team table with 20 points from 11 matches.
Both teams had played out to a 1-1 draw in their first meeting at the same venue on Tuesday.
Najip FC took the lead yesterday through Abang Norsilmy Abang Hj Taha in the 11th minute.
The advantage was erased by Hardi Anak Bujang from the penalty spot on the half hour mark.
It took an own goal by Micky Anak Gendi in the 65th minute to separate the two sides last night.
QAF FC had given away a foul just outside of the box and the ensuing freekick taken by Abd Azim Abd Rahman deflected off Micky into his own goal.
Najip FC dominated ball possession and were pushing forward much of the second half.
They should have killed off the match completely in the 78th minute with Hj Khairol Anwar Hj Md Yaakub chipping the ball over QAF FC custodian Ak Sharil Muiz Pg Hashim only to see it go wide of the post.
QAF FC were desperately in search of an equaliser but Najip held their composure and soaked up the pressure in the last 10 minutes.
The only highlight upfront was when Micky tried to redeem himself in injury time with a well taken strike from outside the box but Najip keeper Ron Junior Philip ensured that the ball would not slip his hands.
Najip FC head coach Johari Hj Bungsu was glad to win all three points from the match.
“We came into the game looking for the win regardless of the score and I’m happy that we managed to do so,” said Johari in an interview with The Brunei Times after the victory.
“It is not easy to beat QAF FC especially since they have been around for a while already and played with good teamwork.
“We changed to a 4-4-2 formation for the match since we are short handed with key players out with injuries,” he added.
“We will continue to work hard and carry the momentum forward. It has been up and down for us but we’re looking to stay up (like the way we started the season),” continued Johari.
The other match saw Wijaya FC steal all three points from Jerudong FC with a 2-1 win at the Balapan Track and Field of the Hassanal Bolkiah National Sports Complex in Berakas.
Abd Muhd Fakiri Abg Jaludin put Wijaya in front in the 32nd minute before Mohd Asnawi Syazni Abd Aziz equallised two minutes after halftime.
Abd Muhd Fakiri netted his second of the game in the 89th minute to see Wijaya grab the victory.
The competition continues today with Kilanas FC taking on the Royal Brunei Police Force Sports Council (MS PDB) at the Berakas Sports Complex at 8.15pm.
