QAF FC missed the chance to climb to their peak position of the season in the DST Super League after going down to a 2-1 loss in the reverse fixture of the Najip FC game at the Berakas Sports Complex last night.
A win would have elevated a depleted QAF FC side to fourth and easily their best placing should Wijaya FC failed to stem their authority in the Jerudong FC game down the road at the Balapan Track and Field.
QAF FC was missing the services of Mardi Mirza bin Abdullah Bujang who was serving his suspension for collecting two yellow cards.
The returning Abang Nor Sillmy bin Abang Hj Taha of Najip FC tested QAF FC’s resolve with a header following an inch- perfect delivery from the brilliant Abd Azim bin Abd Rahman.
Mohd Adie Arsham bin Mohd Saleh was tripped in the box after reacting the quickest to a long ball. QAF FC’s stand-in captain Hardi Anak Bujang assumed the responsibility and converted the spot- kick.
The fans were used to seeing Abang Nor Sillmy dictating the midfield and covering every blade of grass but this tie manifested a player relieved of such duties and instead instructed to put the ball at the back of the net.
The lead barely lasted when Muhd Hanif @ Abd Hadi bin Hamir unleashed a fierce drive that Ak Sharil Muiz bin Pg Hashim could only punch away before Abang Nor Sillmy capped his return with a goal.
Abang Nor Sillmy demonstrated his scoring instincts with a volley but the keeper was able to make a save before an advancing player had time to pounce.
Micky Anak Gendi’s own goal all but dented QAF’s hopes for a victory but despite seeing their defence outstretched for most of the second half, they were nearly rescued after a brief revival.
Najip FC remained fourth in the DST Super League standings via goal difference with Wijaya FC, who won 2-1 against Jerudong FC in the other match.
