ROYAL Brunei Armed Forces Sports Council (MS ABDB) jumped to the top of the DST Super League with a 2-0 victory over Jerudong FC at the Balapan Track and Field at the Hassanal Bolkiah National Sports Complex in Berakas last night. Two goals from Abdul Azizi Ali Rahman and Mohammad Safari Wahit was enough to see MS ABDB replace Indera SC at the top of the table.
Their jubilation may be short lived though with Indera scheduled to play Majra FC at the Hassanal Bolkiah National Stadium tonight at 9.
MS ABDB started brightly in the first half and should have gone in front in the fifth minute but Mohd Baharin Hamidon's attempt flew just wide.
MS ABDB gradually grew frustrated in the game as they could not get past Jerudong's back line.
With Jerudong's captain Mohd Sufian Hj Lamudin playing more as a third central midfielder than a second striker, MS ABDB found it hard to break down Jerudong's 4-5-1 formation.
The second half saw MS ABDB come out determined to find the back of the net.
They came close in the 65th minute when Mohammad Mazazizi Mazlan's shot was brilliantly parried by Jerudong's goalkeeper Abdul Hafiz.
Abdul Hafiz pulled off another fantastic save from Ak Mohd Safri Pg Othman whose header inside the box from a left wing corner looked destined to fill the top corner of the net in the 70th minute.
MS ABDB finally broke the deadlock when substitute Abdul Azizi scored from outside the penalty box in the 73rd minute.
Jerudong went all-out in search of an equaliser but MS ABDB were able to keep a tight hold of midfield to deny them the opportunity.
Jerudong FC were made to pay when they failed to clear a cross, which fell to unmarked Mohammad Safari who was given a plenty of space to fire a shot.
"It was a very good game, Jerudong played very well tonight, they defended very well in the first-half. But with the way we played tonight, it was only a matter of time before we got the goals," said Major Azaman Hj Hussin.
"Jerudong defended well in the game, so in the second-half we decided to put more strikers to put pressure on them (Jerudong). We finally got our goals in the second-half. I think the defenders were fantastic tonight and our goalkeeper played very well too," he added. The Brunei Times
