ROYAL Brunei Police Forces Sports Council (MS PDB) edged Kilanas FC
3-2 in the DST Super League at the Balapan Track and Field at the
Hassanal Bolkiah National Sports Complex in Berakas last night. The win sees the policemen move into second position in the table with 13 points behind Indera SC who rank better only because of a better goal difference.
"It was a very important three points for us. We knew that if we win tonight, we will move above MS ABDB (Royal Brunei Armed Forces Sports Council) into second place," said MS PDB coach Sahrin Hj Mohammad Jaya.
"Indera SC and MS ABDB both dropped points this week. I am very happy that we were able to close the gap to them," he told The Brunei Times last night.
"Even though we conceded two goals, I think our defenders played very well tonight. I am still not clear what happened in the penalty box. It seemed to me that my player (Aisamuddin Hj Yussof) made a very good shoulder to shoulder challenge," he said, in response to a penalty that was awarded to the opposing team in the second half.
"When we were 2-1 up, our players were a bit complacent. There were many chances and we could have won by a bigger margin. When Kilanas found their second goal, we were back into the game and thanks to our man of the match, Mohd Syarafuddin Hamdi, who scored the winning goal for us tonight."
MS PDB went ahead as early as the 11th minute when Khalid Mustapah headed in a captain Rosmini Hj Abdul Abdul Kahar's cross.
Captain Rosmini would double MS PDB's lead two minutes later, scoring from inside the penalty box after latching onto a long ball from the midfield to beat Kilanas' goalkeeper Mohammad Faisal Hashim in the goal.
The game looked lost for Kilanas but they would respond, pulling one goal back in the 39th minute after Ridwhan Awg Hj Bini took advantage of poor communication between two MS PDB centre backs before blasting the ball into the bottom corner.
The second-half saw Kilanas struggle to get back on term as they could not penetrate the MS PDB defence.
Naasiruddeen Abdul Wahab fired a free-kick just wide and Mohd Nurhidayatullah Hj Zaini came close to scoring for Kilanas when his close range header was brilliantly tipped over the bar by MS PDB's goalkeeper Mohd Khairul Amin Zainuddin.
Kilanas eventually found their second goal when referee Hj Rozaiman Aidit Hj Ibrahim awarded them a penalty in the 71st minute after Aisamuddin was believed to brought down Ridwhan inside the penalty box, and Ridhwan would step up to convert the penalty to put Kilanas back in the game.
Kilanas however seemed content to play out to a draw but Rosmini would put on a heroic effort when he scored a spectacular goal in the 74th minute in the form of a volley from just outside the penalty box.
